Last Friday, I had the opportunity to lead two breakout sessions at the CNA Instructor Conference in Springfield, and it was truly an honor. Guiding my dementia escape room sessions with such a passionate group of educators is something I will never forget.
Throughout the experience, I shared that this dementia escape room was created in honor of my mother, who lived with dementia for seven years. I wanted it to be more than just an activity. It was intentionally designed as an immersive experience to help educators understand the thoughtful, step by step approach required when caring for a person with dementia.
The energy in the room was incredible. Educators were fully engaged, thinking on their feet, collaborating, laughing, and embracing a completely different way of learning dare I say while having fun!
Every element of the escape room reflected real life situations, encouraging participants to slow down, think critically, and truly connect with the needs of a person with dementia. Because care is never one size fits all.
The journey with our mother led me to develop a 10-hour self-paced dementia course that presents dementia education in a clear and simplified way. The course is interactive, innovative, and engaging, designed to help learners truly understand the stages, nuances, and complexities of dementia. It's also certed for 10 CEUs.
