“Emotional eating occurs when we eat in response to emotions or unmet needs rather than biological hunger,”1 Since food plays such an important role in our lives, we all emotionally eat and though diet culture tells us it’s wrong to emotionally eat, it’s very human and normal to eat when we ...

With thanksgiving and the holidays in December, there may be apprehensive regarding navigating the diet talk around the table or labeling of good and bad foods. To help, a Holiday Bill of Rights was created by Intuitive Eating creator Evelyn Tribole. Save to your phone and review before each holiday.

Screening for eating disorders before weight loss drugs are prescribed by medical providers is something that would be beneficial.

Abuse of weight loss drugs is nothing new, but “nothing compares to the phenomenon that we’re seeing right now with these GLP-1s,” one provider said.

I wanted to share about the STEMental Summit that I just presented at this past Saturday. My presentation was on 'Food and Mood'. It was my second time participating and I love learning from the children/teens/young adults that attended. One topic that was discussed is how we can get HANgry and it affects our mood and how we communicate with others. The biggest takeaway is trying to eat every few hours to avoid being hangry. And no, there was no food incentive, as many asked :)

Happy belated National Hydration Day! With the high heat and heat advisories we are having in Florida, I wanted to share a fun drink you can incorporate -Mineral drinks (also known as adrenal cocktails). They contain vitamin C source, sodium source, potassium and magnesium source.
You may have increased your water intake, and you are peeing all the time, this means you might need some sodium. It’s a mineral that you are told to avoid but one that is crucial to helping water get into your cells. Potassium is a great balance of sodium. Potassium is needed for heart health, muscle contraction, blood pressure, water retention, etc. Magnesium is used for 300+ processes in the body including heart health, carb utilization, and help with synthesis of protein. Magnesium supplements in addition to coconut water can help with sleep, migraines, muscle cramps, blood pressure, etc. These minerals get depleted during times of stress.

Below is a homemade mineral drink recipe.

Tropical Refresher
8oz coconut water (Nature Nectar brand from Aldi) magnesium/potassium source
8oz orange juice, pulp-free (Vitamin C source)
⅛ tsp redmond's real salt (sodium source)
Variations exist such as cranberry juice instead of OJ, using cream of tartar instead of coconut water.

You can also buy pre-made powders that you throw into your water. Brands I recommend: Redmond Re-Lyte Hydration Electrolyte Mix, Adrenal Cocktail Jigsaw Health (salty taste), Rayvi Shop

I also wanted to share other ways to get your other ways besides water to get in hydration. Fruits and vegetables - Watermelon, tomatoes, celery, cucumbers, cantaloupe, spinach, gazpacho soup (cold soup) or hot soup (if that’s your jam), 100% fruit or vegetable juice, popsicles (homemade or store bought).

If you are wanting mineral drink recipes, message me and I can send you a copy.
