Happy belated National Hydration Day! With the high heat and heat advisories we are having in Florida, I wanted to share a fun drink you can incorporate -Mineral drinks (also known as adrenal cocktails). They contain vitamin C source, sodium source, potassium and magnesium source.
You may have increased your water intake, and you are peeing all the time, this means you might need some sodium. It’s a mineral that you are told to avoid but one that is crucial to helping water get into your cells. Potassium is a great balance of sodium. Potassium is needed for heart health, muscle contraction, blood pressure, water retention, etc. Magnesium is used for 300+ processes in the body including heart health, carb utilization, and help with synthesis of protein. Magnesium supplements in addition to coconut water can help with sleep, migraines, muscle cramps, blood pressure, etc. These minerals get depleted during times of stress.
Below is a homemade mineral drink recipe.
Tropical Refresher
8oz coconut water (Nature Nectar brand from Aldi) magnesium/potassium source
8oz orange juice, pulp-free (Vitamin C source)
⅛ tsp redmond's real salt (sodium source)
Variations exist such as cranberry juice instead of OJ, using cream of tartar instead of coconut water.
You can also buy pre-made powders that you throw into your water. Brands I recommend: Redmond Re-Lyte Hydration Electrolyte Mix, Adrenal Cocktail Jigsaw Health (salty taste), Rayvi Shop
I also wanted to share other ways to get your other ways besides water to get in hydration. Fruits and vegetables - Watermelon, tomatoes, celery, cucumbers, cantaloupe, spinach, gazpacho soup (cold soup) or hot soup (if that’s your jam), 100% fruit or vegetable juice, popsicles (homemade or store bought).
