Heat can turn dangerous fast. 🔥 At Sacred Heart Bay, patients with suspected heat stroke are rapidly rehydrated (IV or oral electrolytes) and cooled in an ice bath 🧊 to bring body temperature down.
“Heat stroke is a big problem…people can progress to loss of consciousness…and then, unfortunately, stroke and death are not far away,” warns Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kunal Jani.

Ascension Sacred Heart Bay celebrated its anniversary with a Recommitment Ceremony and Blessing of the Hands. The annual event was open to all associates to recommitment to our Mission and Values with our Vision, "Answering God's call to bring health, healing and hope to all."

Even one of the service pets was blessed as they are an important part of healing for our patients, visitors and associates. Guests enjoyed music by Chris Gober, respiratory therapist at Sacred Heart Gulf.

Fireworks light up the sky for the Fourth of July. To keep your Independence Day celebrations in your backyard and not the ER, here are five firework safety tips to keep you and your family safe on the Fourth.

🎇 Supervise children while handling fireworks, including sparklers. Sparklers burn up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit (equivalent to volcano lava), which can quickly ignite clothing and cause severe burns.
🎇 Always light fireworks outdoors. Keep a bucket of water or garden hose nearby in case of an emergency.
🎇 Never relight a firework. It may look like a dud, but it can still explode.
🎇 Wear protective eyewear when lighting fireworks.
🎇 Never point or throw fireworks, or put them in pockets or clothing.
