They admitted her as a prank. She graduated top of her class and built her own hospital. 🏥💪

In 1847, Elizabeth Blackwell applied to 29 medical schools. All of them said no. When her application reached Geneva Medical College, the faculty left the decision to the students. Thinking it was a hilarious joke, the all-male student body voted "yes."

Elizabeth didn't just show up—she excelled. Despite facing total social isolation from her peers, she became the first woman in the U.S. to earn an MD. But the battle wasn't over. Because no hospital would hire a female physician, she founded her own: The New York Infirmary for Indigent Women and Children. She dedicated her life to ensuring that being a woman was no longer a barrier to receiving (or providing) quality medical care.

The Lesson: Never underestimate a woman with a mission.

This Women’s History Month, we’re honoring the pioneer who turned a "prank" into a revolution. 🩺✨

Long before modern medicine, a Greek woman named Metrodora wrote "On the Diseases and Cures of Women."

In fact, this is the oldest medical text known to be written by a woman.

Metrodora was a surgeon and a scholar who provided the first detailed instructions on how to perform gynecological exams using a speculum. Her work was the standard for doctors across Europe and Rome for over 1,000 years.

This Women's History Month, when you wonder, "Who wrote the book on women's health?" A woman named Metrodora—nearly 1,800 years ago. 🏺🩺"

Long before "mobile clinics" were a trend, Dr. Dorothy Ferebee was driving into the heart of the Jim Crow South to save lives. 🚗🩺

In the 1930s, maternal and infant mortality rates for Black sharecroppers in the Mississippi Delta were staggering. Dr. Ferebee didn't wait for the system to change; she led a caravan of volunteers directly to the people who needed them most.

The Obstacle: They operated in extreme poverty, without running water, and under a segregated medical system that actively worked against them.

The Victory: Her "Mississippi Health Project" became one of the most successful public health initiatives in U.S. history, bringing prenatal care and immunizations to thousands of families who had been left behind.

The Legacy: As the first Black woman to lead the National Council of Negro Women’s health initiatives, she proved that healthcare isn't a privilege—it’s a human right. 🕊️✨

This Women's History Month, we recognize Dr. Dorothy Ferebee!

The most important "grade" you ever received was likely given 60 seconds after you were born. 👶📉

Why? Before 1952, there was no standard way to check a newborn’s health. If a baby was struggling to breathe, they were often tragically overlooked as "stillborn" because doctors didn't have a protocol to intervene.

When asked how she’d fix this, Dr. Virginia Apgar grabbed a scrap of paper and scribbled down five vital signs. That "scrap of paper" became the Apgar Score, the first clinical method to treat newborns as patients who needed their own specialized care.

To make it easy to remember, her name became the guide:
A -Appearance (Skin color)
P-Pulse (Heart rate)
G-Grimace (Reflex irritability)
A-Activity (Muscle tone)
R-Respiration (Breathing)

The Legacy: Every baby born in a hospital today gets a "grade" at 1 and 5 minutes old.

This Women's History Month, we have Dr. Apgar to thank for those lifesaving seconds!
