September is Women in Medicine Month—a time to honor the trailblazers, leaders, and caregivers who are shaping the future of healthcare. It’s a celebration of resilience, innovation, and the lasting impact women make in medicine every day.
This month the ECMA is highlighting two of our amazing women physician leaders: Dr. Debra Williams and Dr. Toni Pennington.
"Since relocating to Panama City in 2008, I have been an active member of the ECMA, serving on the board soon after joining and later as president, while also representing our medical association and the Northwest Florida caucus as a delegate to the FMA. These roles have deepened my appreciation for the importance of organized medicine and the collective voice of physicians. Professionally, I practice at Emerald Coast Obstetrics & Gynecology, where my interests include robotic surgery, endometriosis and infertility, adolescent gynecology, and high-risk pregnancies. Outside of medicine, I enjoy traveling with my husband Scott and our sons, Bradley and Chase, as well as hiking, fishing, painting, reading, and cheering on Virginia Tech sports—go Hokies!" - Dr. Pennington
"I have had the privilege of serving on the ECMA Board in various leadership roles, where I’ve enjoyed representing my colleagues and advocating for improvements in the healthcare system and legislative arena. One of my favorite roles has been serving as Co-Chair of the CME committee, where I am committed to elevating the annual Symposium with outstanding education, engaging activities, and opportunities for camaraderie. This year is especially exciting with a new venue and fresh experiences planned. Beyond ECMA, my practice focuses on coaching physicians to successfully navigate the demands of healthcare while maintaining a fulfilling personal life, as well as supporting leadership growth, career transitions, and future planning." - Dr. Debra Williams
