�The Wellness and Relaxation Session�
Includes a 5-minute guided
meditation to connect with your senses and focus your attention to the present moment, a 10-minute progressive muscle relaxation to relieve all stress and tension in your body, a 30-minute warm-up that consists of a series of stretches and breathing exercises, a 30-minute movement/dance exploration directed to one of the seven dimensions of wellness (spiritual, physical, emotional, career, intellectual, environmental and social) using different dance and movement exercises to elicit thoughts, ideas and emotions, with a 5-minute cool down and 10-minute ending ritual to process and exchange feedback about the experience.
�Wellness Dance Therapy Program�
What is wellness? Wellness is defined as the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as the result of deliberate effort. There are seven dimensions of wellness:
1) Physical
2) Spiritual
3) Emotional
4) Intellectual
5) Social
6) Environmental
7) Career
Wellness is a full integration and the pursuit of continued growth and balance in these seven dimensions. Each dimension contributes to our own sense of wellness or quality of life, and each affects and overlaps the others. At times, one may be more prominent than others, but neglect of any one dimension for any length of time could have adverse effects on overall health. Some wellness goals examples include:
1) Making room for mindfulness
2) Communicating thoughts, feelings and ideas
3) Strengthening self-confidence
4) Finding self-purpose
5) Cultivating an optimistic/positive attitude
6) Establishing a healthy lifestyle
7) Identifying stress-relievers

How dance therapy could promote wellness and further your wellness goals? From the start, dance can promote wellness because it inherently addresses the physical dimension of wellness. Dance and movement is known to have abounding benefits for our mental and physical well-being. When we dance, our brain releases chemicals called endorphins that boost our mood, and help us relieve stress and pain. In addition to the “good-feeling” vibes related to dance, dance can also serve as a medium to communicate and explore feelings, thoughts and ideas through non-verbal expression by using gesture and locomotion, proximity, touch, gaze, facial expression, posture, etc. Therefore, dance could help explore and express feelings, thoughts and ideas regarding each one of the dimensions of wellness. For instance, the spiritual dimension of wellness involves possessing a set of guiding beliefs, principles, or values that help give direction to one's life. It encompasses a high level of faith, hope and commitment to your individual beliefs that provide a sense of meaning and purpose. In our session focused on Spiritual Wellness we use dance to explore your spiritual core and to practice being present, curious and inquisitive. You will express your core beliefs through movement, gesture, posture and dance. If your goal is to deepen your spiritual core and find self-purpose, this session will enhance your ability to do so. Some of the dance exercises and activities that are utilized in sessions include:
