Attachment isn't just about how we show up in the big moments — it's built in the small, ordinary ones that happen every single day. The way you lean in when they're talking about dinosaurs (again). The words you choose when they've made a mistake and you're tired, exhausted, and trying to get dinner ready. The moments where you can say "I raised my voice, which was not ok, and I'm sorry."

Part of the assessment process for new clients at The Willow Space is an in-depth attachment history, going through how caregivers were able to show up (or not) throughout the client's early and adolescent years. This post was inspired by the gaps we have heard everyday, over the course of years, regardless of how old the client is now or why they initiated treatment.

These five actions are small steps anyone can take to start increasing awareness about presence with our children. Swipe through for simple, research-backed ways to deepen your connection with your child, starting today.

Getting to Self presence is what it's all about!

However, part of the process in accessing Self is working with strong protectors and starting to learn the client’s system with them (as well as being aware of our own parts in the process!). Protective parts are an essential piece of a healthy, functioning nervous system- we don’t want to barrel through or knock them down in order to get to the good stuff. Just like a roadblock, they’re there for a reason. Sometimes clients need a bit more resourcing to help feel more confident in starting to work with protective parts, especially if the part(s) has been doing their job for a long time. Working at a slow enough enough pace for the client is key - slower is faster in this case.

If you’re feeling stuck on how to work with parts and could use some extra help on resourcing clients in order to access the confident, courageous Self energy, comment “GUIDE” and I’ll send you the link to my EMDR Phase 2 guide for clinicians. You’ll get tons of info on the AIP model and why it’s important, how to know if a client is ready to move into reprocessing, and a few pages of resources for you to try out at the end. Let me know what you think!

The Willow Space is thrilled to announce our newest EMDR clinician, Jackie Harrison!

Jackie approaches trauma with the belief that our responses are adaptive and deeply human—even when they begin to create patterns that feel limiting or no longer helpful. She works collaboratively with clients to gently identify and interrupt intergenerational patterns, such as shame, guilt, and avoidance, that can have lasting impacts on one’s sense of self and safety.

As a q***r therapist, Jackie intentionally considers how identity, culture, oppression, upbringing, and lived experience influence the ways people cope and make meaning of their lives. Her work is grounded in a systems-based, trauma-focused lens while remaining responsive to each client’s individual needs—because healing is not one-size-fits-all.

Jackie is currently accepting new teen and adult clients with daytime and evening availability and is INN with Aetna (pending INN with Quest). Her clinical specialties include working with neuro-complex and LGBTQ+ individuals who have experienced childhood trauma, relational trauma/difficulties, medically complex individuals, and caregivers of medically complex individuals, including those with chronic conditions.

Visit our website at https://www.willowspacefortraumatreatment.com/jacqueline-harrison to learn more Jackie & schedule a consult call to learn how she can help you to connect with defensive parts, deconstruct inner narratives from traumatic experiences, and begin creating a Self-led life.

The Willow Space is thrilled to announce our newest IFS clinician, Johanan Odhner!

Through mindfulness and somatic exercises, Johanan helps adult individuals work towards relational change by facilitating trust within the inner system. In practice, this may look like helping individuals simply identify and access inner resources or actively working to relieve the system of burdensome beliefs that prevents the individuals from experiencing a sense of internal wholeness and harmony.

Johanan is currently accepting new adult clients with daytime and evening availability and is INN with Aetna. His clinical specialties include working with neuro-complex and LGBTQ+ individuals who have experienced childhood trauma, relational trauma/difficulties, and those who have been the victim of narcissistic abuse.

Visit our website at https://www.willowspacefortraumatreatment.com/johanan-odhner to learn more Johanan & schedule a consult call to learn how he can help decrease fear responses, increase confidence, and begin creating a Self-led life.

Still smiling from last Thursday’s open house at The Willow Space for Trauma Treatment.

Seeing a mix of familiar faces and brand-new connections in one room was a powerful reminder that this work does not happen in a vacuum—it happens in community. From warm conversations to genuine curiosity about what we do and how we do it, the energy in the space was equal parts meaningful and joyful. Extra big thank you to everyone who brought a food item to donate to 's food drive, just in time for the holidays.

We are deeply grateful for the support, encouragement, and trust this community continues to invest in us. Your presence reinforces why we do this work and where we are headed next. Starting with a tiny, dark office above the shops in Paoli Plaza with to a doubly large, airy, beautiful suite with in just a few short years feel like a dream coming to fruition. We could not have gotten to the place we are now without the support of those around us.

As we look ahead to 2026, we’re excited to keep building relationships, deepening connection, and growing alongside the people who make this work possible. Thank you for showing up, cheering us on, and being part of The Willow Space story.
