Let’s chat about the vicious cycle of INSULIN RESISTANCE.
———————————
A diet high in excess or refined carbohydrates (sugar, bread, pasta etc), chronic stress, and/or a sedentary lifestyle can all lead to elevated blood sugar. The pancreas then has to make lots of insulin to handle the blood sugar. Over time, the tissues get overloaded with glucose (sugar) so the cells start resisting the insulin. Blood sugar levels and insulin levels continue to get higher. The body starts storing the excess sugar as body fat. High insulin prevents the body from using any fat for fuel (all cells/tissue in body NEED fat - especially our brain). You then feel hungry, weak, and tired which makes you eat more (usually carbs). Insulin makes it nearly impossible to lose weight.

Ask your doctor to check your fasting insulin levels. If they won’t, find a new one. Despite the “normal” reference range, fasting insulin higher than 5 is a red flag, yet also an excellent time to make changes before (likely several more years down the road) you are diagnosed with diabetes.
