Types of Lubricants, what to avoid and reasons for using.
Lubricants are an essential yet underrated tool for pelvic wellness. Whether you’re addressing vaginal dryness, enhancing comfort during intimacy, or easing pelvic floor muscle tension, the right lubricant can be transformative.
Benefits:
1. Combatting Dryness: Hormonal changes (like perimenopause, menopause or postpartum), stress, or certain medications can lead to vaginal dryness. Lubricants help reduce friction and discomfort.
2.Enhancing Intimacy: They reduce discomfort during s3xual activity, making the experience more pleasurable.
3.Supporting Pelvic Floor Therapy: Some lubricants can assist in using dilators, pelvic wands, or other tools prescribed by pelvic health therapists.
Types:
1. Water-Based Lubricants:
Pros: Safe to use with condoms, silicon pelvic wands, silicon dilators, and toys, easy to clean, non-irritating for most.
Best for: Everyday use, s3xual intimacy, or pelvic health tools
2. Silicone-Based Lubricants:
Pros: Long-lasting, great for water-based activities, doesn’t dry out quickly.
Best for: Prolonged activity or those with significant dryness.
Note: Avoid using silicone lubricants with silicone pelvic wands, pelvic dilators, and toys, as they can degrade the material.
3. Oil-Based Lubricants:
Pros: Natural and nourishing, can double as a moisturizer.
Best for: Those not using latex condoms (oil can break down latex).
4.Hybrid :is a mix of silicon and water based lubricant
Pros: Longer-Lasting, Compatible with Most Materials, Less Sticky, Good for Vaginal Dryness
Cons: Not 100% condom safe, May Contain Additives, Not Always Compatible with Silicone Devices, Requires More Cleanup Than Water-Based L***s
Ingredients to avoid: Parabens, glycerin, and fragrances, flavors, and warming sensation as these can irritate sensitive tissues.
