A poem I started to write while dealing with many health issues and hospitalizations again this year. Being dismissed by doctors, nurses, social workers, friends, and even some family who don’t understand what chronic mental health health struggles and chronic pain after having multiple seizures. It makes you start to look at everyone and everything under a microscope and wonder why and sometimes why people say/do things or say things. Sometimes we never will know, but we can’t let it destroy our inner peace and hope for a better tomorrow.

“Ever since I was a kid I remember doing active shooter drills in school ALICE which is a women’s name also stands for: Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate Maybe it would be less scary of a concept if it sounded like the name of our friend Each year there’s multiple school shootings, we all remember the first being Columbine… but do you even remember the latest? Have we become so desensitized to kids dying at school that it becomes so hard to remember the names of the students and faculty that lost their lives to another senseless tragedy? They say we should arm teachers with guns, but I think about the reality of having to kill someone trying to kill me or my future students and I can’t picture myself doing that because school isn’t a place where people should go to die Each day 12 children die from gun violence in America, another 32 are shot and injured The average class size in Pennsylvania is 25, how am I supposed to save almost half my class from not being killed when I’m trying to teach a lesson? Ever since I was a kid I remember doing active shooter drills, soon it will be my responsibility to keep 25 students alive.”

Names of the victims lost:

Alyssa Alhadeff, 14
Scott Beigel, 35

“After that, we who are still alive, and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet with the Lord and the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.” -Thessalonians 4:17

Things Not Said- Brianna Ford

Dedicated to: Brian Joesph Ford

We find it easy to leave things unsaid
Maybe if I keep things inside I’ll feel better? But I wish I could have told you I loved you one last time.

Maybe three simple words would have kept you with me a little longer. You would have been 56 years old this year. Each year gets a bit easier but it also gets harder because the memories are slowly getting harder to remember

Did you know every time I hear the song “Mockingbird” by Eminem I know you’re with me? Did you also know that I look for you in every crowd of people. I search endlessly because sometimes I’m still in denial that you died.

I know that it’s been a while since you’ve physically been here on this planet, but you’re always with me. When I sit in my car listening to music, or when I feel so angry that I can feel my face getting red, I know you’re with me because you loved me so much. You always told me how much you loved me, you never left it unsaid.
