Care Plus NJ President and CEO Brigitte Johnson, Esq. was recently named to ROI-NJ’s 2026 Women Influencers in Business list, recognizing more than 300 women leaders whose vision, leadership, and commitment have shaped New Jersey's business and civic landscape.

Under Brigitte’s leadership, Care Plus NJ continues to break down systemic barriers and redefine access to care by advancing integrated behavioral health, substance use, and primary care services across northern New Jersey. As one of the nation’s first Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHC), the organization has built a comprehensive, person-centered model of care, further strengthened by the expansion of its open access framework.

This approach ensures same-day, walk-in availability across service lines, streamlines entry points, and significantly reduces wait times, allowing individuals and families to access care at the moment they need it. By prioritizing continuity of care, Care Plus NJ is not only expanding access, but transforming how and when communities receive critical health services.

As part of Care Plus NJ's commitment to equal access to quality care, Brigitte's leadership continues to empower individuals and families across northern New Jersey to thrive.

We are honored to share that Care Plus NJ was recognized at the CIT-NJ Center of Excellence 11th Annual Awards as the 2025 CIT NJ Center of Excellence Mental Health Provider of the Year.

This recognition reflects the dedication, collaboration, and compassion of our incredible team and partners who work every day to strengthen crisis intervention services and support individuals and families experiencing behavioral health challenges across New Jersey.

We are especially grateful for our long-standing involvement with the Bergen County CIT-NJ Program and partnership with law enforcement, providers, and community partners who make this work possible. A special acknowledgment to our Executive Senior VP, Amie Del Sordo, who serves as the Mental Health Coordinator for CIT Bergen County NJ, her leadership and commitment are instrumental in making this collaboration so successful.

We were also grateful for the opportunity to participate in this year’s forum, including a powerful presentation by Jen Velten, Senior Director of Trauma Services, and Sgt. Kester Ossaigbovo of the Fort Lee Police Department on “The Importance of Introspection.” Their session highlighted how understanding implicit bias and practicing cultural humility can improve decision-making, strengthen community trust, and support more effective responses in the field. Through real-world examples and discussion, attendees were able to explore how self-reflection translates into meaningful action in both mental health and public safety work.

Truly proud of what we’ve built together and even more motivated for the work ahead.

Care Plus NJ Senior Vice President of CCBHC Strategies & Innovation, Ann Marie Zihal, recently testified before the New Jersey Assembly Budget Committee, urging continued state investment in behavioral health services and the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic model.

New Jersey's CCBHCs collectively serve more than 50,000 residents each year. Without sustained Medicaid investment, nearly half of those services are at risk, and 23,000 people could lose access to care.

The CCBHC model works. It brings behavioral health, substance use treatment, and primary care together in one accountable structure, reaching people in schools, shelters, emergency departments, and communities across the state. The infrastructure exists. The outcomes are proven. Now is the time to grow it.
