Behind every policy conversation is a real family caring for a loved one with intellectual and developmental disabilities asking: Who will care for my loved one in the future?

If you’re a parent or caregiver of a child with special needs, this recent CBS News New York story will likely hit a chord. Emmy Award-winning reporter Jennifer Bisram TV Reporter interviewed New Concepts for Living CEO Steve Setteducati and resident Spencer Schiavo with his legal guardian/stepmother Julie Skolnik in "The Cost of Caregiving" series, where they talked about what happens when children turn 21 and age out of school services. That “transition cliff” is a feeling many caregivers have discussed experiencing while struggling to plan for their futures, knowing their that their loved ones will need support for the rest of their lives.

Tune into CBS News New York this week to watch New Concepts of Living resident Spencer Schiavo with his legal guardian and stepmother Julie Skolnik of Hawthorne, N.J. talk about their transition from New Jersey's childhood system of care to adult care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Reporter Jennifer Bisram's "The Cost of Caregiving" is scheduled to be broadcast 5 p.m. on Monday, April 20 and noon on Tuesday, April 21!
