Communication: Listen to Understand
Most of us listen to respond, not to understand.
A helpful shift is to practice reflective listening. When someone shares, repeat back: “What I hear you saying is…” This doesn’t mean you agree, but it shows you’re listening.
In counseling, we use this often with couples and families—it reduces defensiveness and builds trust. Communication is less about winning an argument and more about creating connection. Practice listening today—you may be surprised how it changes the tone. 🗣️
