Five years at PCYC and the classes you loved on day one, taught by the teachers you trust, are still in the same time-slots you remember.

Celebrating our five-year faves today: Jill, Ashley, Melissa, Jean Marie, Jennalynn, and Jenn. From the day we opened they’ve shown up week after week with their whole heart; prepared, determined, and ready for you.

Ash and Jill have you loved up (and sweaty!) at 5:30, Jenn wakes you up (and kicks your 🍑) at 6am. You’ve been zenning out to Led Zeppelin at 9am on the weekends with Mel. Jean Marie has always had your Saturday 10:30 back, and Jennalynn has brought her deep, grounded restorative flow to wind down your 6pm Sundays this entire time.

Pretty much every modern yoga teacher has read part or all of the Yoga Sūtras. If you want to truly understand Patañjali; however, you need Sāṃkhya. Sāṃkhya may very well be the oldest philosophical system in the world, mentioned in the Rig Veda long before its written recording, and forms the basis for Buddhism, Jainism, and Pātañjaladarśana; the philosophical system behind the Yoga Sūtras.

This new training begins with the full Sāṃkhya Kārikā: all sixty original aphorisms translated into modern conversational English and studied in sequence before moving into Yoga Sūtras Chapter 1 and Chapter 4 with direct philosophical context.

Curious about karma and transmigration? Unsure how meditation leads to liberation? Confused about the role of mind and the I-thought? These questions and more are directly answered in the Kārikā and expounded upon in the Sūtras.

By the end of this training, you will have a grounded foundation in classical yogic philosophy and a clear understanding of the Yoga Sūtras as a system of meditation oriented toward liberation.

Led by Jenn Solomon, this training underpins the last five years of study and translation of the Sāṃkhya Kārikā and the Yoga Sūtras, supported and influenced by her philosophy and meditation teachers Dr Richard Miller and Dr Ram Rao. This manual is an excerpt from her upcoming book: The Flower That Blooms: Liberation through Meditation in Patañjali's Yoga Sūtras.
