Seasonal depression can occur for a few different reasons. Seasonal changes, including high temperatures and longer days, can be hard on certain people's bodies and brains. In the warmer months, sleep quality may also deteriorate. Excessive exposure to bright light can interfere with our body's ability to produce melatonin, which aids in preparing us for sleep. Sleep issues may result from this. Our moods can be impacted by low levels of melatonin and serotonin, which are two chemicals that help produce melatonin.

In addition, when we witness others having a great summer vacation, we may experience FOMO, or the fear of missing out. Our emotions and sense of self-worth may be affected by this, and for some people, it may even cause feelings of despair. Flying Pig Psychotherapy can help you if you struggle with certain things that affect your life in a negative way when you get anxious or depressed. It's critical to seek treatment and expert assistance for depression as it's a significant mental health problem. Creating a treatment plan with the assistance of a mental health expert can help you regain your sense of self and lead a more satisfying life. Call today for a free initial consultation.

Our past experiences, whether good or bad, can influence us in many ways, including shaping our personality, values, and beliefs. However, it is not the experiences themselves that define us, but rather our response to them. In other words, we are not defined by what happens to us but by how we choose to respond to those events. If something from your past is still defining your life and thoughts and you’re craving change, maybe it’s time for you to prioritize your mental health. Flying Pig Psychotherapy can help you begin your journey today!

By overdoing your “staying positive” mentality, you may be invalidating your or others’ feelings. It’s not good to hold your emotions in or push them under the rug. The best way to deal with negative emotions is to let yourself feel them and then let them pass.

Toxic positivity is the assumption that despite a person’s emotional pain and turmoil, they should only have a positive mindset. However, when we pretend that emotional pain doesn’t exist, we send a message to our brain that whatever the emotion is, it is in some way bad or dangerous.

If our brain believes we are in a dangerous situation, our body will respond as such. Feel your feelings. Sit with them. But then let them pass. It’s ok to let others ride the wave of whatever emotions they’re feeling too. It’s what makes us human.

People may choose not to seek treatment for mental health issues for a variety of reasons. They and their families often fail to take any action due to feelings of fear, shame, and embarrassment. Changing your attitude or perspective on mental health and how you respond to mental health issues can sometimes help you get the support, care, and professional treatment you require.

Asking for help shows signs of strength, confidence, and resourcefulness. In a world where people expect problems to be solved fast, surrounding yourself with the right people who can help you in different situations is highly valuable. There has never been a time where mental health services have been less stigmatized, nor as convenient and accessible as now. Do you find yourself asking, “Is this all there is to life?” Do you have trouble knowing when to say “yes,” and when to say, “no?” Do you find yourself generally stuck in life? Craving change, but unsure when it will come or how to get things started? Maybe it’s time for you to prioritize your mental health, contact Flying Pig today!

One of my specialties is helping with anxiety. A common anxiety disorder is panic disorder or having recurrent panic attacks. This condition includes symptoms such as sweating, trembling, shortness of breath, or a feeling of choking. It may be accompanied by a pounding heart or rapid heart rate with feelings of dread.

Such attacks often happen suddenly and without warning. Fear of when the next attack may occur sometimes causes people to change or restrict their normal activities. Often, people try to cope with those negative reactions by avoiding situations or experiences that make them anxious. Unfortunately, avoidance can backfire and actually feed the anxiety.

I am trained in diagnosing anxiety disorders and teaching patients healthier, more effective ways to cope. A form of psychotherapy known as cognitive-behavioral therapy(CBT) is highly effective at treating anxiety disorders by helping patients learn to identify and manage the factors that contribute to their anxiety.

Patients learn to understand how their thoughts contribute to their anxiety symptoms and by learning to change these thought patterns, they can reduce the likelihood and intensity of anxiety symptoms. Anxiety disorders are very treatable. Most patients who suffer from anxiety are able to reduce or eliminate symptoms after just a few months(or less) of psychotherapy, and many patients notice improvement after just a few sessions. It's not a sign that your relationship is over if you want or need relationship and marital counseling. Rather, it typically indicates that you and your spouse are prepared to undertake the challenging yet worthwhile task of altering your communication styles so that you move from a distant and stagnant relationship to one of intimacy, open communication, while attending to each other's most basic needs.

Flying Pig can assist you in overcoming the challenges that your partnership is encountering through couples therapy. The number one reason couples seek therapy is to get help with their conflicts. It’s often more than just what they fight about, it’s how they fight that needs work. They, in a sense, need to learn to “fight better”. This is important because no other issue can get addressed unless communication is healthy and effective.

As your couples therapist, I’m not there to take sides or make one partner right or wrong. I listen intently and want to hear both perspectives and to then provide a safe space and atmosphere for two people to express themselves and find common ground. Flying Pig Psychotherapy is an individual psychotherapy practice that provides couples therapy that can help couples live a better life…together!

As your psychologist, it’s not my place to give you advice. Believe it or not, my job is not to tell you what to do, but rather to help guide you towards your own path and decisions. I can help you do this by working on things such as decision-making skills and healthier thought patterns, increasing self-awareness and personal insight, and resolving core issues. During treatment I will be supportive and nonjudgmental, but I will also challenge you to recognize some difficult or uncomfortable truths about yourself by pushing you a little bit past your comfort zone. Our discussions will be thought provoking and genuine, and feedback is both transparent and supportive. Finding the proper fit for personal growth matters, contact Flying Pig today!
