I've had to listen to the airplane safety announcements multiple times over the past few weeks during my summer travels.. And every time I wondered for how many people on the flight this is something hard to understand or do - putting your own mask on first before helping others.
At least to me it's initially very counterintuitive, especially while flying with my own children. But of course it makes sense.
And then I wondered for how many people this concept is even harder to apply to their day-to-day lives.. we put so much of our time, energy, effort and resources into other people and often put ourselves last. But the idea is the same as on the plane - if you don't get your oxygen, you can't help others getting theirs. If you don't take care of yourself first, how are you supposed to take care of others?!
Self care is not selfish, it's simply necessary!
What have you done for yourself today or this week?
