We’re still thinking about the “hallelujah” moments from Justin Bieber at Coachella...and in therapy there can be lots of “hallelujahs” too!

Whether you're learning to cope, process, or just have a space to be real—
you’re welcome here.

Ever notice how your body holds onto stress before your mind fully catches up?

Tension in your jaw. Shoulders creeping up. Shallow breathing.
It adds up—quietly, but powerfully.

This is your gentle reset. ✨
A quick body scan can help you release stress, reconnect, and come back to the present moment in just a few seconds.

Try this right now:
• Drop your shoulders
• Unclench your jaw
• Take one slow, deep breath

You don’t need a full hour to care for yourself—just a moment of awareness.

Save this for later 🤍 and come back to it whenever you feel overwhelmed.

If it feels like your child goes from “fine” to full meltdown in seconds… you’re not alone 💛

In therapy, we’re teaching kids something powerful:
👉 Anger usually doesn’t come out of nowhere.
We help them learn how to notice it before it explodes.

Here’s how we might do it:
🌡️ The Anger Thermometer (0–10)
We teach kids to track their anger like a thermometer.
• 0–2: Calm
• 3–4: Slightly annoyed
• 5–7: This is the important "warning" zone
• 8–10: Explosive / overwhelmed
💡 Many “explosive” kids actually live around a 6–7 most of the time—so they don’t feel the build-up until it’s too late.
🧠 The Goal: Catch it early
We’re helping kids recognize:
• What happens in their body before they hit a 10
• What their “warning signs” are (tight fists, fast breathing, feeling hot, etc.)
🛠️ Coping Skills Work BEST at a 5–7
This is when kids still have access to their thinking brain and can:
• Take a break
• Use a coping strategy
• Regulate before things escalate
⏳ At a 10…
Their brain is overwhelmed.
At that point, the focus shifts to:
➡️ Safety
➡️ Space
➡️ Letting the anger naturally come down
👨‍👩‍👧 What parents can do:
• Start talking in “numbers” (e.g., “What number is your anger right now?”)
• Normalize checking in on their internal state
• Praise your child when they notice and name their anger
• Encourage coping skills before the explosion
✨ This isn’t about stopping anger—it’s about teaching kids how to understand and manage it.
And that’s a skill that lasts a lifetime 💛

Happy Birthday, Desiree Warren! 🎉

Desiree brings so much joy, connection, and kindness to the Canyon Pines team and to every client she works with. The way she shows up for others does not go unnoticed, and today, we celebrate her.

Join us in wishing Desiree a day (and year) filled with the same care and energy she so freely gives: full of travel, yoga, golf, scuba diving, and plenty of time with Oslo. 💛

We get it. Sometimes self-care feels like being plopped into a bathtub against your will — uncomfortable, a little dramatic, and deeply inconvenient. But just like Maggie, you'll feel SO much better after. 💙

Self-care doesn't have to be perfect! It just has to happen.

Whether it's a shower, a nap, a walk, or finally making that appointment you've been putting off — you deserve it. What act of self-care will you take today to start your week off well?
