Swipe to see my radical transformation -> oh wait, there isn’t one! Let’s promote a realistic postpartum weight loss and recovery shall we?

I will be fitter than I was before pregnancy, just wait, but I know my body and that’s going to take a lot of time and hard work. The best way to not freak out and get discouraged about that? Enjoy the work. Respect the process.

I have to laugh a little because there is nothing about my body that is “snapping back” or “bouncing back” (ok well maybe bouncing 😂). But I honored the time it took to grow a human, so I’ll honor the time it takes to create and refine this new body of mine, changed yet again by the crazy thing we call motherhood.

I am eating clean and working out CONSISTENTLY, which I am super pumped about! Results are not always instant and progress is not always linear and I think it’s important to remember that whether you’re postpartum or not. I’m excited to see change, but until then you’ll find me working on the discipline, the lifestyle, and the process, because that will change me just as much on the inside.

4 WEEKS PP UPDATE
I’ve reached the point when updates like this on myself feel dumb, because I have gone so deep down the rabbit hole of mom life. It’s weird, you reach this point where every part of your day is consumed with THEM; rocking, reading stories, activities, nursing, cry management and making/cleaning up SO MUCH FOOD that you really do stop thinking about yourself. Like I actually think this post is pointless right now, but I’ll do it for sake of consistency.

Felt a little better in my one trip to the gym this week. More recovered, more normal. I’ve managed at least one short workout a day, usually with Scarlett strapped to my chest. One thing is still true, anytime I prioritize a work out it is a straight shot of endorphins, and my mood is INCREDIBLY improved by it.

This week I am less showered. Haven’t got to emails. Day 5 hair in a ponytail. There is a lot of pajama wearing. 😄 But trying to always make time for a little movement. That’s my sanity.

What is the ONE thing that helps you feel like a human even when everything else slips for a bit? Shower? Reading? Workout? I wanna know. There’s just not time for everything 😅

Nursing babies has never come easy for me. It is the most unnatural natural thing I’ve ever done. 😄

If you breastfed your babies, what was your experience? Did you love it and feel all the warm fuzzies, or was it challenging, painful, and emotionally draining? It’s of the above for me.

This time I invested in some pretty nursing bras and I love how they have made me feel. I purchased two bras from this company when I was pregnant, and they were kind enough to gift me this one.

2 WEEKS POSTPARTUM UPDATE:
Oh yeah, I remember this part. The initial thrill of losing the weight of the baby, placenta, fluid etc. is over, and now I remember that my body loves loves loves to hang on to the extra fluff. I am not one of those people where the weight “just melts right off” from breast-feeding. Nope, it holds on to it with seemingly extra tenacity. So this is where the slow, consistent progress has to start. Ugh. Instant gratification is it so much more fun isn’t it?

My belly has continued to go down, but oy that extra skin is poppin! 😂 It will go back, but that takes time as well. Bleeding is all done, and I feel really good; other than the sleep deprivation, almost normal.

I’ve been working very hard this week to produce more nourishment for this baby. She is still on the small side, so I have been adding pumping sessions in around the clock to try to help with my supply and supplement her intake. I’m hungry all the time. Not getting in as much activity as I’d like. But there is a time to get snatched, and a time to focus obsessively on the needs of your child, and for now, this is the latter. 😄

So, tell me; if you breast fed or pumped, did it help you lose weight or did you find your body held on in order to produce? Everyone is so different!

Started my Postpartum Reconnect program from .fit and it’s been really cool to learn some new breathing techniques and get back in touch with my deep core muscles.
You can use my code RABON50 to get this program for $50 off if you’re interested in a good PP recovery program!

A classic INSTAGRAM vs REALITY

1 WEEK POSTPARTUM UPDATE:
I’m posting physical pictures here, so that I have a similar progress timeline like I posted with my pregnancy. However, my update has very little to do with how I feel physically. This week has been a whirlwind of learning baby Scarlett; both of us figuring out nursing, and how to navigate the land of baby sleep and very sore bo***es.

I feel so bonded with her already. 💞She is the sweetest little thing, and knows my smell, touch, and voice so well; she quiets whenever I am near her.

I felt some of the crazy postpartum hormones rear their heads this weekend, so I am putting some care into taking things easy and staying close to home. I’m telling myself it’s not a race to feel “normal” again.

I’ve been focusing on eating really well, which has been easy because of all of the lovely food friends and family have brought over for us. I’m limiting my caffeine and drowning myself in water, and I think that has greatly helped my milk supply this time.

Honestly, I feel pretty great physically! I am so happy to say that my squishy belly and extra skin haven’t bothered me a bit, and I’m trusting my body to heal, recover and change in it’s own time. It takes 10 months to grow a human, so… I’m in no rush for some kind of unrealistic “bounce back.”

Don’t even get me STARTED on the “bounce back” pressure of today’s new mama! Did you or have you felt that same pressure??

Tomorrow I will start my “reversal” posts out of pregnancy. I’m calling it that because when I trained for a bikini competition, we reverse dieted and trained out of that “peak” condition, and this feels like a close parallel to that!

I posted weekly pregnancy updates, so it feels right to do weekly postpartum updates too: the good, the bad, and the… ugly? Nah, the beautiful.

Social media does a CRAP job of depicting reality sometimes, doesn’t it? Post baby is a SEASON and I have no desire to post a curated highlight reel that takes the power and humility out of what it really brings.

Can’t promise my photos will be this pretty anymore, but we’ll see what comes of it! Thanks for your friendship and support in this whole journey too! This pregnancy was so different and it has helped me so much to share and process in this way.

Bengkung belly binding!

This is a new thing I’m trying this time and I wanted to show you! 10/10 love the way it feels, we’ll just have to see if I can do this every day, as it takes a while to tie.

I bought this from on Etsy

Bengkung belly binding is originally rooted in Malaysian culture, but other countries and cultures around the world have used a similar a form of binding to help support the healing process postpartum. I love the history and tradition of it.

Benefits of using a bind or wrap postpartum:
- supports the torso and organs as they return back to pre-pregnancy position
- assists in abdominal healing and diastasis recti repair
- provides stability and support for the spine, and ligaments loosened by pregnancy
- covers belly and helps posture while nursing

Scarlett May Rabon came to meet us last night!
Teeny little thing, strong as can be, and we just had the coolest birth together.

Scarlett literally means, “bright red” or “dynamic/bold,” and from very early on, the word that always spoken to me with her was “fiery.” We just loved the name Scarlett for both it’s strength and femininity, and I think it embodies the power and strong will that I feel in her spirit perfectly.

May has several different meanings, including “wished-for child” and “she who is great,” and it is also the month that both Dan and I were born in.

Love this nugget already. Super stoked not to be pregnant anymore. Will fill you in on every detail you probably didn’t ask for over on my stories. 😄
And THANK YOU for your prayers and well wishes yesterday; every comment of support meant so much to me. ❤️

If this post is live then it’s go time!! We’re having a baby! I would treasure your prayers to cover us ♥️
