On Wednesday April 29th, I attended MPS Native American Education Program’s Kinder Celebration held at Kerr Center for Agriscience.

It was a great afternoon spent celebrating all the Kindergarteners that completed the school year. I was asked to share some motivating words with the students and their families. I congratulated all kindergartens for making it through the year and reminded them that they can do anything they set their minds to. To the families I thanked them for being in attendance and stressed the importance of showing up and being active within their student’s education. Also in attendance were community partners and organizations.

I want to thank the organizers for inviting me and giving me a part in their special program highlighting our indigenous youth. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the class of 2038. Sapo!

On April 24th and April 25th I attended Gathering of Nations “The Last Dance” held in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

It was such an amazing experience as this was my first time at Gathering of Nations. It was an honor to enter the circle for the last time with all the other tribal ambassadors from across the country. Outside of the pow wow there were many tribal groups sharing their culture and I got the opportunity to dance with our Arizona and California bird communities.

I want to give a big congratulations to Miss Indian World 2025-2026 Dania Wahwasuck for representing all indigenous people with grace, humility, and honor. While the title of Miss Indian World has come to an end, the representation and community work that these ladies have done throughout multiple communities will always be remembered.

I had such a fun weekend meeting new people from near and far and being able to share our culture with others. I will cherish the conversations and memories made this past weekend with me for the rest of my reign. It was an honor to be able to represent the 22 tribes of Arizona at the last Gathering of Nations. Sapo!

On Saturday April 18th, I attended Miss Salt River’s platform event “Vospo ‘Chuumashuum” held at the Lehi Cultural Grounds.

Participants were able to sign up prior to the event to learn vospo. We first gathered together to learn the songs and what they are describing. After this dinner was served and attendees were able to hear from Miss Salt River 2025-2026 Emma Scabby on why she chose Vospo for her platform event and what it meant to her and her family. Then participants gathered again to pick their sticks and dance to the songs we learned earlier. The night ended with Piipaash social dancing.

I want to thank Miss Salt River Emma Scabby for inviting me and for bringing our community together to learn more about Piipaash singing and dancing. It was amazing to see the hard work and dedication it took to plan and execute an event centered around your platform. It was an amazing night of learning and dancing Vospo. Sapo!

On Wednesday April 15th, I attended the “Bloom Where You’re Planted” Senior Expo held at Skeg Himdag Ki where I was asking to provide the opening prayer.

This expo was held for the seniors of my community to help encourage wellness. Attendees received promo bags and were able to visit department booths. After breakfast was served, all were encouraged to walk 4 laps around the baseball field to complete a mile.

I want to thank Salt River Senior Services for inviting me and allowing me to be apart of their program. It was a great morning spent with the elders of my community. Sapo!

On Saturday April 11th, I attended Jr Miss Salt River’s platform event “Movement is Medicine” held at the ALA football field.

The event started with light stretching as attendees prepared to take a couple laps around the track. After everyone was done walking, a meal was provided and we got to hear from our Jr Miss Salt River 2025-2026 Tiaré Begay-Smith. She explained the importance of movement in our daily lives and why she chose her platform. It was incredible to hear her story and to see her event come to life. Following dinner was the O’odham and Piipaash traditional socials and giveaway.

I want to thank Jr Miss Salt River Tiaré Begay-Smith for inviting me and for bringing our community together for a night of movement. It was inspirational to see the hard work and dedication it took to plan and execute an event centered around your platform. It was an amazing night of walking and dancing. Sapo!

On April 7th, I attended Salt River Family Advocacy Center’s “Chalk and Walk” held at Friendship Park.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and to show support to survivors, FAC organized a Chalk and Walk. To start the event, attendees were encouraged to write supportive messages on the basketball court. After hearing some words from Council and organizers, everyone walked a mile.

Sexual Violence is horrendous and disproportionately impacts tribal communities. Events such as this one not only show support to all those that are impacted but also bring awareness to issues within our communities.

I want to thank Salt River’s Family Advocacy Center for bringing our community together to show our support and love to everyone affected by sexual violence. To any survivors, please know that we all stand behind you and care for you. Si has em elid (we are thinking about you) ❤️ Sapo!

On April 3rd and 4th I attended the Piipaash Matasheevm held at the Lehi Cultural Grounds in Salt River.

My community includes not only the Onk Akimel O’odham but also the Xalychidom Piipaash and this weekend highlighted their culture through social dancing. It was such a fun weekend dancing with the different bird communities of Arizona and California.

I want to thank the Piipaash Matasheevm committee for putting on such a great event that brought together so many different communities. Thank you to everyone that came out and shared their songs and dances. Sapo!

Yá’át’ééh! Miss Indian Arizona First Attendant Chloe Eskey here. 😄

On Friday, I had the opportunity to support the Rising Healers: Native American Healthcare Expo at A.T. Still University, a space dedicated to providing Indigenous youth with firsthand exposure to healthcare careers.

Students engaged in a variety of sessions across different healthcare pathways, gaining hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of what these careers truly entail.

I was especially grateful to support the Ready, Set, Respond and Train the Trainer sessions through my internship with the IHEART Initiative (AIHEC), which focuses on building sustainable pathway programs for Indigenous youth pursuing careers in healthcare.

Opportunities like this are so important in strengthening representation and expanding access within healthcare for our communities.

I am very thankful to have been part of the planning committee and to serve as a volunteer at this event. I would also like to extend my appreciation to the Cultural Diversity team at A.T. Still University for bringing together several organizations to make this impactful experience possible.
