Looking for ADHD relationship coaching or couples therapy because you keep talking things through, but nothing actually changes?

Specialized couples therapy for relationships where one or both partners have ADHD traits — diagnosed or undiagnosed — can help you understand the pattern you’re stuck in and begin finding your way back to each other.

When ADHD is part of the relationship, both people can end up feeling painfully misunderstood. One partner may feel criticized, micromanaged, or like they’re always letting someone down. The other may feel exhausted, alone, and stuck carrying the mental load.

General couples counseling can help, but when ADHD is part of the pattern, you need more than generic communication tools. You need someone who understands how ADHD can affect follow-through, emotional regulation, rejection sensitivity, shutdown, mental load, and connection.

At Mighty Acorn Therapy, I specialize in neurodivergent-informed couples therapy for partners navigating ADHD, resentment, communication breakdowns, and repeated conflict.

This work is not about blaming the ADHD partner or asking the other partner to simply “be more patient.” It’s about helping both of you understand how each other’s brains and nervous systems work, rebuild trust, feel connected again, and remember that you’re on the same team.

Mighty Acorn Therapy offers couples therapy in Parker and South Denver, with telehealth available across Colorado.

Anxiety can slowly take the joy out of everything you do.

It can make life feel like a journey from one worry to the next. Just when you finally get one thing “under control,” another worry pops up — like an exhausting game of emotional whack-a-mole.

Sometimes anxiety looks like your brain building an entire storyline around something that hasn’t happened yet.

You imagine the conversation.
The rejection.
The mistake.
The fallout.
The version of the future where everything goes wrong.

And before you know it, your nervous system is responding as if that story is already true.

Often, anxiety is not random. It is learned. Your nervous system may have become very good at scanning for threat, predicting problems, and trying to keep you safe.

In therapy, we work on understanding the pattern underneath the anxiety — so you can slow the spiral, come back to what is real, and begin to feel more grounded, present, and free.

Mighty Acorn Therapy offers specialized anxiety therapy in Parker, Greenwood Village, and South Denver, with telehealth available across Colorado.

Your child was just diagnosed with ADHD, OCD, or anxiety…
and somehow you left with more questions than answers.

You understand the diagnosis on paper.
But at home?

You’re still trying to figure out:

What do I do in the moment?
Am I being too hard… or too lenient?
Why isn’t anything I try sticking?

Most parents I work with aren’t lacking effort.
They’re overwhelmed from trying too many things—and still second-guessing themselves.

The problem usually isn’t a lack of information.
It’s figuring out what actually applies to your child in real life.

And just as important—understanding how your child’s brain actually works so you can respond with more clarity, more confidence, and more compassion.

That’s the gap I help parents bridge.

Not more theory.
Not more guessing.
Just clear, practical guidance for what to do at home—and a deeper understanding of what’s really going on underneath the behavior.

If this is where you are right now, you’re not alone.

I put together a page that walks through what this kind of support looks like and how it can help:

Support for parents after a child’s ADHD, OCD, or anxiety diagnosis. Understand how your child’s brain works and learn practical, real-life strategies that actually help at home. Serving Parker, Castle Rock, and South Denver, with telehealth across Colorado.

Maybe it’s not just anxiety. Maybe it’s OCD.

If you’ve tried to get a handle on your anxiety and nothing really seems to stick…

If you find yourself thinking,
“I just need to figure this out…”
but your mind keeps pulling you into something new…

…it might not be “just anxiety.”

I see this pattern often in my practice, and when I do, it’s often OCD—especially when it shows up as a mind that won’t let things go, constantly trying to figure things out, get certainty, or feel reassured.

Sometimes it’s hidden in perfectionism, or the feeling that things need to be “just right” before you can move on.

If this sounds familiar or resonates with your experience, I wrote more about it here:

Why does anxiety keep coming back, even after therapy? Learn how intrusive thoughts and OCD patterns can keep you stuck—and why traditional anxiety strategies don’t always work. Discover a more effective approach to lasting relief.

If you feel overwhelmed more often than not—even when nothing is technically “wrong”—you’re not alone.

A lot of the people I work with are doing everything “right,” but still feel like their nervous system never fully settles.

I wrote a post about why that happens—and simple ways to regulate your system throughout the day so you don’t keep hitting that wall.

Feel overwhelmed all the time, even when nothing is wrong? Learn how to calm your nervous system throughout the day with simple, realistic strategies that actually help.

Sometimes anxiety isn’t just anxiety.

Sometimes it’s a nervous system that is highly sensitive to the world around it.

One way I often explain sensitivity is by using the example of measuring instruments.

Imagine two devices that measure sound.

One only picks up fairly loud noises.

The other is finely tuned and able to detect even the faintest sound in the room.

Neither instrument is wrong — one is simply more sensitive and precise.

Many people move through the world with a nervous system that works in a similar way.

They notice subtle changes in tone.
They quickly pick up on tension in a room.
Noise, conflict, or emotional intensity registers quickly and deeply.

Highly sensitive people often notice something else as well — capacity.

They may find themselves reaching a point where they feel done or overwhelmed while others around them are still going strong.

They might want to leave the gathering early.
Step away from the noise.
Take time to recover from environments that others seem to handle easily.

Because of this, many people grow up hearing things like:

“You’re too sensitive.” or "Chill out. Why are you always so stressed?"

But what they may actually have is a very finely tuned nervous system taking in far more information than most people realize.

Like any highly responsive instrument, that kind of system works best when it’s understood and cared for properly.

Does this description sound familiar to you?

If you’ve spent years feeling overwhelmed or misunderstood, therapy can help you better understand how your nervous system works and how to support it.

Do you ever notice that setting a completely reasonable boundary still leaves you feeling guilty afterward?

You say no to something you don’t have capacity for…
You ask for space…
You stop overextending yourself…

—and then you spend hours wondering if you were too harsh or selfish.

For many adults, boundary guilt isn’t a personality flaw. It’s a learned response.

If earlier relationships depended on keeping the peace, managing others’ emotions, or avoiding conflict, your brain may still interpret boundaries as a threat to connection — even when they’re healthy and necessary.

The result? You care deeply about others, but often at the cost of yourself.

Therapy can help you understand where these patterns came from and learn how to care for others without abandoning your own needs.

You don’t have to choose between kindness and self-respect.

It can be frustrating and disheartening to feel anxious and depressed even when life is going well. You may find yourself wondering why you’re feeling this way because things in your life are pretty good.

You may feel like you need to hide your anxiety and depression from others because how can someone else understand, when you don't understand it yourself?

Many times, when we find ourselves in this position, we think we should “pull ourselves up with our bootstraps” and power through. Asking for help may seem silly or you may think “it’s not serious enough for therapy, I’m fine.”

If this is you, you’re not alone. The problem is, if we had the ability to pull ourselves out of it, we'd have already done that. Sometimes, we need someone outside of the situation to give guidance and help us to understand why we're feeling the way we are.

Anxiety and depression can be symptoms of deeper emotional issues. There can be unresolved hurts or relationships in your past that lie under the surface and yet are affecting how you feel, each and every day.

You may have heard critical messages as a child that now play on repeat from your inner voice, making you feel inadequate and unworthy. Even though things are going well, your inner voice may say it’s still not good enough.

You may have gone through a traumatic event that you feel you've put behind you, but its affects still linger in your subconscious.

If you are struggling with anxiety and/or depression that doesn’t seem to make sense with your life circumstances, therapy can help. Working with a therapist can help to uncover the reasons for the way you’re feeling.

As you process through past experiences and relationships, you’ll begin to understand how your past is affecting your present. You'll gain the information and resources you need to feel good about yourself and your life.

A therapist can help support you through this, sometimes painful process, and the insight and understanding gained can lead to healing and a bright future without the anxiety and depression you’re carrying today.

Those who grew up in a home with an addict, typically share similar feelings and ways of coping with the chaos. As adults, many of the ways that were developed to cope in that destructive environment, not only don't work, but lead to unhealthy relationships and negatively affect daily living.

You are a survivor and you have likely gained strength and resilience from your experiences, but you may have also learned to behave in ways that won't serve you in your adult life. You may have a hard time getting in touch with your emotions since you've hidden them away for so long. You may be unable to be vulnerable with others so you push them away. It might be hard to trust and you may feel unworthy or guilty.

It's important to understand the effects of what you've been through. You need to determine what to hold on to and what to let go of. If you need help sorting it all out, please reach out. We're here to help!

We are not born as perfectionists. We become perfectionists as life events, circumstances and relationships come together to influence this change in how we think.

Being a perfectionist is different from being a high-achiever or someone who strives for excellence. Perfectionism takes it a step further, and that step robs us of joy, sends our sense of anxiety and overwhelm through the roof, and leads us to question our own worth.

Because perfection is unachievable, striving for it always ends in failure. It can lead to depression, anxiety and feelings of overwhelm. You feel insecure, unworthy, and inadequate.

It doesn’t have to be this way. You can learn to focus on the journey, rather than the outcome, and have peace, at last.

It is possible to let go of perfectionism. This doesn't mean letting go of striving for excellence or doing your best. It means letting go of the impossible and not judging yourself for the things that are out of your control.

It takes time, effort and insight. Freedom is just around the corner.

We spend time and money to improve our health…eating the right foods, getting adequate sleep, staying hydrated, and finding time to work out. It isn’t always fun, but we know that the payoff of good health is worth it.

Sadly, most of us completely neglect or forget our mental health workout. There are lots of ways to help our brains. When we get in touch with our inner thoughts and emotions on a regular basis, we essentially “work-out” our brains and our mental health improves.

We gain insight into struggles and challenges, our thinking becomes more flexible, we are able to adapt to new situations and become more resilient. Insight into our minds also leads to understanding our strengths and weaknesses.

Just like we want to achieve balance and strength physically, we need this in the mental realm as well. We want to maintain our mental strengths and work to improve our problem areas.

This can only happen if we spend time and effort gaining insight into our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. There are many ways to get and keep in touch with our inner selves. Here are just a few of the many ways to work-out your brain.

📖Journaling
🧘‍♀️Meditation
📚Reading materials about mental health (and then spending time thinking about how the information applies to us)
⭐️Group therapy
⭐️Individual therapy
🌳Spending time in nature
🫶Connecting and spending time with others
Spending time alone getting in touch with your emotions
