Happy to have received an additional certification recently... Menopause Society Certified Practitioner!
As a health care practitioner I am committed to being a lifelong learner because medicine and science is constantly changing. During my 24 yr as a nurse practitioner I often observed an acceleration of worsening health of midlife women, beyond what I thought was just due to "aging" alone. I just didn't fully understand it all until this past year when I invested countless hours of researching, reading, taking online courses and continuing education to try to get a better grasp of why women in the menopause transition were experiencing a rapid decline in health and quality of life.
While there is so much more to learn we now know (thanks to increased focus & research) that women experience a substantial increased risk for metabolic disorders, musculoskeletal issues (joint pain, loss of bone mass), brain fog, depression and many other medical conditions.
This is important because in order to provide comprehensive care to women in midlife it essential for healthcare providers to have an in depth understanding of the physiological changes that occur when estrogen levels decline so we can try to mitigate the risks.
Menopause specialists are trained to :
✅ Educate on the benefits and risks of hormone therapy, discuss the types/options available, and help women decide if they think it is right for them. Discuss other non- hormonal treatment modalities that are also available for those who may not be candidates for HT but are suffering from peri/menopause related symptoms.
✅ Assess and screen for underlying risk for metabolic disorders, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, mental health concerns. It is essential to be proactive and not reactive!
✅ Provide a lifestyle medicine approach that includes emphasis on proper nutrition, physical activity, optimal sleep and help with stress reduction to help women thrive during midlife and beyond! ❤️💪
