On the morning of June 10th, 1935, after receiving a simple message of experience, strength, and hope from Bill Wilson, Dr. Robert Holbrook Smith knelt in his bedroom at 855 Ardmore and turned over the management of his life to God. This surrender was the culmination of a decades-long spiritual quest to find a God of his own understanding.

Dr. Bob put into action at once a simple set of ideas, transmitted to him by his new friend, Bill W. In the course of a single day, Dr. Bob made his amends and commenced a new way of life grounded in the twin principles of love and service.

For the good doctor, it was the day when theoretical understanding evolved into practical action. For the worldwide Fellowship of AA, it is Founders' Day.
