I like to think I work an honest program. Some would say I don't work one at all because I don't eat sleep and breathe recovery. But let's be real for a second. Isn't the whole point of getting sober and changing your life NOT being a slave to something?

I've seen countless people get strung out on their idea of recovery. I've watched people succeed yeah. I've also been to their funerals to the point that death doesn't bother me anymore. I lost one of my best friends who I all but begged to stop helping people and just focus on himself. And he listened to the masses because everyone has this big idea of what recovery is supposed to be. So just take that in for a second and know if you live, eat and breathe recovery, the same emotional numbness could happen to you.

I'll never go out of my way to look for people to help. That's not a requirement of sobriety. But if ANYONE would ask for help I would do everything I could for them to help them get better. That is a requirement in my opinion.

I'm honest... maybe too honest. My tone may not always be to your liking. I carry a lot of passion in the things that I say and do. I'm not afraid to hurt feelings. And if you are doing wrong and don't want to do what's necessary to change... I'll let you struggle and I'll sleep good at night knowing I did the right thing. Who am I to deny someone the pain needed to change? Harsh... maybe...

There's no judgement here. Everyone has their own way. So if you ever meet someone like me who to you may seem like they're not working a program, don't judge them either. Just be happy they're doing better.

Big Book of AA page 19:

None of us makes a sole vocation of this work, nor do we think its effectiveness would be increased if we did. We feel that elimination of our drinking is but a beginning. A much more important demonstration of our principles lies before us in our respective homes, occupations and affairs.

Today makes six years of freedom from any mind altering substances for Jared. Help me in celebrating that for him, he didn’t just have to stay sober each day, he fought vigilantly each 24hrs, from treatment to prison to life! Day in and day out he remained sober, what would’ve defeated most men, he stood tall through and walked out the other side with his head held high looking to take on the next life on life task! Jared shows up for his friends, strangers, people he barely knows, most importantly he shows up for his kids! His family! He’s dedicated to this life of helping others! Today Jared’s journey has led him to a freedom he’s never imagined and we couldn’t be more proud of him!
