May is National Stroke Month. CCMC’s Muhammad Rizwan Husain, MD from our Neurology team was featured on this week’s WTAP Health Check and reminded us that “time is brain” when it comes to strokes and some of the symptoms to know.
“For every minute that a stroke goes untreated, two million brain cells die” à click the link in the post to watch the video to get the full story and learn how to “BE FAST” when it comes to stroke symptoms. >> https://www.wtap.com/2022/05/10/health-check-why-time-is-brain-when-it-comes-stroke-health-awareness/
🏆❤️ We did it again…and even better this time! We’re proud to be the only hospital in the state of WV and in the Mid-Ohio Valley to receive the 2022 Platinum Governor’s Award for Excellence from The Partnership for Excellence. We’ve continually been improving to apply the Baldrige Excellence Framework to our operations and continuous improvement efforts and we’re honored to receive this level of recognition. Hospital Week is a perfect time to shine a light on our team who made this achievement possible – thank you to all WVU Medicine Camden Clark employees! 🙌

The circus is in town, and we think our team deserves the greatest show on Earth. So we kicked off this year's Hospital Week with plenty of delicious snacks for everyone!🎪🤡
We were thrilled see Dr. Geoffrey Cousins featured in this week’s WTAP This is Home news segment.
See more about what inspires him in the pursuit of excellence in cardiovascular surgery and how St Mary’s native and Little Hocking resident Art Smith put his trust in Dr Cousins and his award winning team.
👍😀 The patient experience is at the center of everything we do. We believe in the motto: "Compassionate hearts, caring minds, every patient, every time." Here’s what one of our recent patients on 3North shared about her nurse, Anna McDuffy:
“Super Nurse Anna - Thank you so much for your kindness and compassion. You are a wonderful nurse. You made my hospital stay very comfortable and took great care of me. Thank you- Best Nurse Ever!”
Thank you Anna for your show of compassion and excellent care! 💙💛
For 120 years, we have served the Mid-Ohio Valley. While things have changed, our commitment to the highest quality care has not.

... and, that's a wrap 🎬 on Nurse's Week! 👩⚕️👨⚕️
We love our nurses. Take a minute to browse through some of the pictures we were able to take throughout the week, and show your favorite nurses some love! 💙💛
🎗 This is how our team supports each other through difficult times. 🌷 Aimee Morris is the manager of 3N who has been battling breast cancer. She returned to work this week, after a leave of absence to undergo treatment. The staff made her door into an inspirational message wall to welcome her back. One of our unit clerks hand made paper flowers and staff from 3 North and all over the hospital left messages of hope, inspiration, support, and love in the door. 💪 We're here for you, Aimee!
🐾🐶 More pictures of our enjoying their day with nursing staff yesterday. . .
Staff Sgt Tommy Wright was one of the National Guard team members who spent time with us in the Infection Control and Employee Health departments earlier this year. He liked it here so much, he’s joined our team full-time!
Shout out to his wife Mollie, who designed and gave our group these T-shirts she designed and made.
The team wishes to thank SS Tommy Wright for his service, and his wife Mollie for the awesome T-shirts!
🎉👍 Congratulations to one of our two PCT Excellence Award winners, Paige Vancooney! We thank you, Paige, for your dedication, hard work, and friendly personality! 💙💛

👍😀 Compassion is what we do best. In fact, it's one of our WVU Medicine values.
Loki, a nurse in our Emergency Department, had a very positive impact on a mother and her son through his acts of compassion. The patient’s mother wanted to thank Loki for going above and beyond his duties during their ED visit. She shared that Loki was so polite and caring and that he comforted her by sharing a personal experience with his son that helped calm her down. He even brought her son a stuffed animal, which he hadn’t put down since they left. She wanted to say thank you so much to Loki for being so kind to her and her son.
Thanks to Loki and all of you for your acts of compassion to our patients and their families!

🎉👍 Congratulations to Nurse Excellence award winner Stephanie Marshall and one of our two PCT Excellence Award winners, Jennifer Cummins. We thank you for everything you do! 💙💛
🎉 Congratulations to Roshen Mathew, MD, and the Interventional Pulmonary team at WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center (pictured below) for launching a Zephyr Valve program and treating their first patient.
The Zephyr Valve program provides a less-invasive treatment option for severe COPD/emphysema. The procedure involves placement of novel small endobronchial valves into the diseased parts of the lung so that the hyperexpanded damaged part of the lung regresses and the good part of the lung expands, helping patients with severe COPD/emphysema breathe better.

One common cause of sleep disordered breathing in children is enlargement of adenoids (a tonsil at the back of the nose).
Sleep disordered breathing should not be ignored. It should be managed to avoid complications that stem from it. These include ear infections, ear fluid buildup (from adenoid enlargement), poor facial development, poor alignment of teeth, excess sleepiness, raised blood pressure in the lung blood vessels- that may eventually cause heart failure, to mention but few.
Our provider team of Mark Nenow, MD and Scott Criser, APRN will help you focus on the underlying problem. 🙌
