Naloxone (Narcan) saves lives. Period.

An opioid overdose can happen anywhere — at home, in a parking lot, at work, at school. Knowing what to do matters.

🚨 How to recognize an overdose:
• Person won’t wake up or respond
• Slow, shallow, or no breathing
• Blue/gray lips or fingertips
• Gurgling or choking sounds

👃 How to use Narcan (Naloxone):
1️⃣ Call 911 first.
2️⃣ Lay the person on their back.
3️⃣ Insert Narcan into one nostril and press firmly.
4️⃣ If no response in 2–3 minutes, give a second dose.
5️⃣ Provide rescue breaths and stay with them until help arrives.

Narcan is safe. It will not harm someone if opioids are not present. You cannot “get in trouble” for saving a life in most states due to Good Samaritan laws.

Being prepared doesn’t encourage use — it prevents death.

Get trained. Carry it. Use it if needed.

There’s a common misconception that people experiencing homelessness “choose” to live that way.

In reality, most people facing homelessness in West Virginia are navigating circumstances largely outside their control: rising rent, job loss, medical crises, domestic violence, or simply a lack of affordable housing in their area.

Housing instability is rarely a single decision. It’s usually a series of barriers.

Busting myths surrounding housing and homelessness is important. Do your part; correct misconceptions when you hear them.
