A West Virginia JCI Senate legend has left us. By now, many of you already know that Konrad Melkus #13787 passed away this morning.

The family has advised us of the following arrangements: There will be a visitation Sunday, May 4, from 4-8 pm and again on Monday, May 5 from 9 am-Noon at the Ford Funeral Home, 215 Main Street, Bridgeport, WV 26330. Funeral services will follow at Noon.

This was a very special senator who will be sorely missed.

Here is an update on JoAnn Melkus. She is currently in the Taylor Health Care Center Nursing Home, Grafton, WV after spending a few weeks in the hospital to deal with a foot infection. However, her rehabilitation is being delayed because she has a fractured wrist which has yet to be treated (other than to have a temporary wrap). Since she needs a walker to get around, but cannot use her right hand, her rehab is in limbo. Her cell phone is working again, and she would enjoy hearing from friends.

Here are a couple of medical updates regarding folks in our extended Senate family. The mother of Cori Erbacher #68752 is undergoing back surgery. Prayers needed. Also, JoAnn Melkus #72256 remains hospitalized with a foot infection and a broken wrist. Her discharge is imminent, but she will be transferred to a rehabilitation facility until she is able to resolve some mobility issues. Prayers needed.

JoAnn Melkus's medical woes this holiday season get more and more complicated. Unforturnately her trip to the re-hab center has been indefinitely put on hold after it was discovered that she had fluid in her lungs. So she remains in UHC in Bridgeport. If you would like to cheer her up, she would like to hear from you. Call her at 681-342-6134.

I have an update on JoAnn Melkus #72256. Her cardiologist has advised that surgery is not required for her recent heart attack. Her UTI has been successfully treated. That's the good news. The bad news is that she is being transfered from the hospital to a Rehabilitation Facility since she has been unable to walk since the hospitalization. This means she'll be spending Christmas and New Years there and not at home.

12/16/2023

Keep JoAnn Melkus #72256 in your prayers. She has been hospitalized for a UTI.

This was received from Parkersburg Jaycee Caitlyn Elizabeth: Senators! The Jaycees are reaching out to see if any of you would be willing to help with Taste of Parkersburg on June 3rd 4:30-7:30pm. We currently have 3 volunteers. We will be pouring beer at a truck. Tickets will be free for the event for those who volunteer. The event is until 10:30pm! Plenty of time after to enjoy yourself!

Due to unforseen circumstances, the Konrad Melkus Backbone award in Region III was presented in Parkersburg at the WV JCI Senate May meeting, and not at the Steak Fry as originally planned. The award was given posthumously to Bruce Hufford #61314, and accepted by Chris Hufford #63736 and members of the Hufford Family. The announcement of the honor was made originally by US JCI Senate Region III Vice President Judy Nuessle #62267 last month at the Mid-Atlantic Institute annual meeting in Maryland.
