I am excited about today's episode, "Surviving Stress In Unknow Times" with Dr. Stephen Givens and Michael Moore. Dr. Givens, Michael and I discuss "counterproductive" and "productive" coping strategies or collectively known as "stress management techniques." We are going through some very difficult times with COVID-19. Individuals and families are being isolated in their homes, businesses are closing, individuals losing their jobs and health care workers going to work each and everyday not knowing if they are going to catch this virus. This episode could not have come at a better time. They say college is a time when you will learn to adapt to new and challenging situations and gain knowledge and skills that will last a lifetime. It is also a time when many people will develop counterproductive and unhealthy habits in response to stress. Donatelle notes, although we can't eliminate all life stressors, we can train ourselves to recognize the events that cause stress and to anticipate our reactions to them. She notes one of the most effective ways to combat stressors is to build coping strategies and skills that will negate the psychological and physical effects that stress brings.

Due to the coronavirus we are asking you follow the President's Coronavirus Guidelines For America which include the following: 1) Follow the directions of your state and local authorities 2) If you feel sick, stay home. Do not got to work. Contact your medical provider 3) If your children are sick, keep them at home. Do not send them to school. Contact your medical provider 4) If someone in your household has tested positive for the coronavirus, keep the entire household at home. Do not got to work. Do not got to school. Contact your medical provider. If you are an older person, stay home and away from other people. If you are a person with a serious underlying health condition that can put you at an increased risk ( for example, a condition that impairs your lung or heart function or weakens your immune system), stay home and away from other people.

Patients with COVID-19 (Coronavirus) have experienced mild to severe respiratory illness. Symptoms can include: 1) Fever 2) Cough 3) Shortness of Breath. These symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure. You may test negative one day and the very next test positive. You need to seek medical advice if you develop these symptoms, and have been in close contact with a person known to have COVID-19 or if you live in or have recently been in an area with ongoing spread of COVID-19. We are asking our patients at Mountaineer Chiropractic if you are experiencing these symptoms please follow up with their medical providers and not schedule an appointment with our office. Our profession is at "moderate risk" do to the close proximity that we have with our patients and especially with what I do in treating my patients. With all that is happening in the world today with the coronavirus, it's important to build up our immune system. Several ways you can build your immune system, but I am only mentioning a few: wash our hands; get plenty of sleep and eat healthy with plenty of fruits and vegetables. The stronger we build our immune system, the greater chance we have in defeating this virus. 08/31/19: I had chronic mid back pain from an injury from lifting weights. I went months with out getting it treated. I wish I would have seen Dr. Wells months ago! I made huge improvements in that initial area of pain. It feels back to 100%. And Dr. Wells method of adjustment is very gentile. He uses soft tissue manipulation to align areas of need.

During the time I was having my mid back worked on, I discussed with Dr. Wells a couple other areas of concern: my lower back and knees. He was able to work on the soft issues around those areas and work those back to health as well. I am very happy with my care with Dr. Wells. He is kind and has good bed side manners. He is also very knowledgeable about recovery and has shown me techniques I can work at home on my own. The recovery work has helped me stay healthy and maintain the progress I've made. I will definitely continue to see he him, even on a maintenance basis, as I am very active and into athletics.

I would very much recommend his care to anyone that has pain and is in need of an adjustment.

06/27/2019

Good afternoon to my friends and family on Facebook. In the past few months I have shared posts as well as testimonial videos regarding some of the treatment methods that I apply to my patients from Active Release Technique to Graston Technique Therapy. To those of us who work in the healthcare field are aware that "Pain" is typically what brings our patients in to our offices to seek treatment. Rather it be an individual with a toothache going to see his or her's dentist, an individual with abdominal pain seeking treatment from his or her's family doctor or an individual with lower back pain seeking treatment from their chiropractor or physical therapist. We need to be aware that pain is usually the first symptom to come and the first symptom to go. There is more to alleviating a patient's pain, although this is a primary goal before we are able to restore function. We should not stop there. Gray Cook, the author of "Movement", says"First Move Well, and Then Move Often".He continues to note that the best health and fitness practitioners already look at whole movement patterns. They consider fundamental movement before specific movement. Additionally, he explains that the best professionals, educators and researchers agree on one wise, simple and time-honored approach: Fundamentals are always first. Whenever possible, we must separate movement dysfunction from fitness and performance. Aggressive physical training cannot change fundamental mobility and stability problems at an effective rate without also introducing a degree of compensation and increased risk of injury (Brushoj C., larsen K., Albrecht-Beste E., Nielsen MB., Loye F., Holmich P., Prevention of Overuse Injuries By A Concurrent Exercise Program In Subjects Exposed To An Increase In Training Load: American Jornal of Sports Medicine. April 2008;36 (4): 663-670. Gray notes attention to detail regarding exercise is important, but it is only significant after the basics are established and stable. Only then can the foundation efficiently support the rest of the structure and its functions. So if you are an athletic trainer, personal trainer or responsible for designing a rehab or exercise program for your client or patient . Gray recommends screening your patient or client's movement pattern before training them. Training poor movement patterns reinforces poor quality and creates greater risk of injury. I hope you found this interesting. Heal Better. Recover Faster. Mountaineer Chiropractic uses Graston Technique to treat soft tissue injuries. Graston Technique effectively breaks down scar tissue and reduces inflammation that causes pain, loss of motion and stiffness. Using stainless steel instruments, the technique irons out the tangled tissue that's causing the dysfunction. Along with warming up, stretching, strengthening and ice, clinicians can rebuild the soft tissue injury into healthy functioning tissue again. Graston Technique speeds rehabilitation and recovery, reduces the need for anti-inflammatory medication and allows the patient to continue everyday activities.
