Cupping has been practiced for centuries, but today we understand it as myofascial decompression.
It’s effective, but there are a lot of myths out there. Let’s set the record straight 👇
❌ Myth #1: Cupping pulls out toxins.
➡️ Fact: Cupping doesn’t detox your body. What it does do is lift skin and fascia, creating space so blood, lymph, and interstitial fluids can move more freely. That improved circulation = better recovery and tissue health.
❌ Myth #2: The darker the bruise, the better the result.
➡️ Fact: The marks left behind aren’t bruises. Bruises happen from trauma and broken blood vessels. Cupping marks are a temporary surface response as circulation is drawn upward. Effectiveness isn’t measured in color.
💡 The Science of Marks:
Those round discolorations? They often show up in areas where circulation has been stagnant. That means sluggish blood flow, oxygen, and lymph movement. Cupping re-perfuses those tissues—bringing fresh blood in, helping clear waste, and restoring flow. That’s why some areas mark more than others.
❌ Myth #3: Cupping only helps with pain.
➡️ Fact: Yes, it can ease pain—but that’s just the start. Cupping improves mobility, decreases stiffness, and helps the nervous system shift out of “guard mode” so the body feels safe to release tension.
✔️ Bottom line:
Cupping = myofascial decompression.
Not toxins. Not bruises.
Movement. Circulation. Recovery.
