A recent multi-site study explored whether simply eating a meal reduces isometric (repeated) tongue endurance in healthy adults across the lifespan. The investigation found that eating a meal does NOT reduce isometric tongue endurance in healthy adults!

Interestingly, older adults show greater isometric endurance than younger adults, despite longer mealtimes, especially in older females. However, tongue strength declines with age in females, and lower strength is linked to slower eating.
