I know it’s been a long time since I last posted, but this has been on my mind quite a bit lately. I think this is particularly great advice for letting go of people with narcissistic tendencies. I have had my share of experiences with such individuals, and I know that, no matter what, it will be my fault because they are unable to reflect on and take accountability. After a somewhat recent incident with one such individual, a friend sent me this post, and it was the reminder that I needed. ❤️ Sometimes, the best relationship is no relationship. Thus, I accept that, sometimes, I will be the villain of the story. I’m ok with that so that we can all have peace of mind. 👍

Coincidentally (or maybe not such a coincidence), I saw this post from today. For those who may not be familiar, Dr. Ramani is an expert in all things narcissism. I highly recommend her content.

There is a popular saying, “no risk; no reward.” Sometimes, we have to step outside our comfort zone in order to grow. A little fear can be normal, especially when it’s something new, but fear doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not worth doing.

I woke up this morning to more tragic news…this time in my home community of the San Gabriel Valley. Yesterday and today were supposed to be happy, celebratory days because it is Lunar New Year. Instead, more tragedy.

When will we say that enough is enough? How many more have to die before we pass stricter laws? I’m not advocating to take guns away, but can we at least restrict access to and/or ban semiautomatic weapons?

My heart breaks for and with my community. 💔 Even if this event was likely not racially motivated, I can’t help but reflect on how many Asians and Asian Americans live in fear in recent years. The fact that one of my first concerns is whether this is a hate crime or if (once again) Asians and Asian Americans have been targeted because of hate IS a problem. We need to do better. 😓

Love this post from ! I truly believe this. Life is about ; we don’t get to choose. We take the good with the bad. Just as this post says, sometimes, we need the darkness to help us appreciate the light.

When I was younger, I used to feel annoyed and frustrated when people would tell me that I’m always so cheerful and that I was happy-go-lucky. Yes, I did often have a smile on my face, but it was because I also had very real struggles that I didn’t show most. My older brother is not mentally well, and I struggled to cope and make sense of it all. Because of this, everything else seemed like not such a big deal, so why not be happy? Now, when I see others who always seem happy, I wonder what they have gone through in their life to put that smile there. I do believe that it can be difficult to experience true happiness without having experienced true sadness.

I don’t want to minimize anyone else’s experiences…just adding and .

Hope this offers some food for thought and perspective. 👍

Description of picture: The text “Sometimes, the devil doesn’t need an advocate” is centered above the picture of a red circle with a diagonal red line over a devil’s pitchfork.

You may be wondering, what is wrong with giving someone the benefit of the doubt or offering a different perspective by playing devil’s advocate? Sometimes, it comes across more subtly as “we don’t know the context” or “we don’t have enough information.” In theory, there is nothing with these perspectives if they applied equally to everyone. However, too often, I have seen these rationalizations used to minimize, question, or deny the experiences of marginalized individuals. How often are marginalized individuals given the benefit of the doubt or have someone advocate for them? Therefore, is it really fair when only those with relative privilege benefit?

In my experience, this rationalization is often weaponized to uphold privilege in various areas (including but not limited to gender, race/ethnicity, disability, sexuality, socioeconomic status, and religion). My question is, since when does the devil need an advocate? Who benefits and who gets hurt in the process? The next time you are tempted to give someone the benefit of the doubt or play devil’s advocate, I encourage you to reflect on who benefits and who gets hurt. Rather than lending your voice to advocate and support those with relative privilege, consider instead taking the side of marginalized individuals. Their voices are often the ones that are minimized and/or silenced.

Today is July 4th in the United States…a day that is meant to celebrate our independence and freedom. In all honesty, I mostly stopped celebrating July 4th in recent years. I realize now it is because I feel inauthentic celebrating “freedom” when clearly that does not apply to so many folx of marginalized communities. I cannot, in good conscience, celebrate a holiday when so many in the United States are excluded. It is for this same reason that I no longer place my hand over my heart or stand for the national anthem.

The recent SCOTUS decisions only serve to further highlight the inequities that already existed. I look forward to the day when I can wholeheartedly celebrate and feel pride again in the national anthem. Until then, we must do better. ✊
