Switching to a vegan diet can be unhealthy if you don't know what you're doing! "Vegan" living is a huge money maker right now and seemingly everyone is lining up to sell a vegan product. That said, it's important to understand that the true benefits of a vegan diet are hidden in real, whole, plant based foods...not processed trendy foods. If you are thinking of going vegan or plant based, it might be more helpful to think of it as a "whole food, plant based" diet. Those four words cover the basics of what I would consider to be required in order to make a plant based, (or vegan) diet work in the long run. Beyond that, it's just understanding a few nuances like protein, some B vitamins, vitamin D, and understanding your own, uniquely awesome metabolism and needs. Don't let diet trends and 'influencers' talk you into something you are not fully informed about. Get curious, learn the ropes...work with a good nutritionist who has your back...like me! π
