The holidays can be a tender time for families facing illness and loss, which is why the joy and kindness our volunteers bring means more than ever. Their smiles, laughter and warm hearts help create bright moments exactly when they’re needed most.

Volunteers like Andy Killen, who spends his time helping grieving children rediscover joy during a difficult time in their lives, remind us just how much love and light one person can spark.

To Andy and to every volunteer who shares their spirit with our community: Thank you for making this holiday season a little brighter and a lot more joyful. Happy Holidays, and thank you for helping us create more good days!

🌟 Team Spotlight: Meet Linda Siscoe! 🌟

Linda has been a heartfelt part of our team for 7 years, bringing comfort and support to every patient and family she meets. And she loves the Rebecca Fortney Inpatient Care Center team that works so well together to make that possible.

She shares that the most fulfilling part of her job is offering comfort—whether it’s by talking with patients or simply holding their hand. Plus, she reveals a surprising new chapter in her life!

We’re so grateful for the kindness and compassion Linda brings to our Hospice of the Chesapeake family every day. 💙

New resource for our healthcare partners: The December issue of The Referral is out!

Grief starts long before loss. Clinicians are often the first to see it. The Referral for December offers quick, practical guidance on grief literacy and when to initiate a grief-informed referral.

This month’s issue includes:
• Why grief literacy is a clinical imperative
• A clinician checklist for identifying when families need added support
• Winter grief programs offered through Chesapeake Life Center
• Direct links to our online clinical referral form

Your early referral can be the moment a family finally feels safe enough to grieve and the beginning of better outcomes.

Thank you for partnering with us to support families through every step of their journey with illness and loss.

At Hospice of the Chesapeake, we believe that the right technology empowers us to deliver the highest level of care to patients and families. Partnering with DART Health has given us tools that truly make a difference, solutions that remove administrative barriers so our teams can focus on what matters most: compassionate, person-centered care. DART didn’t just provide AI; they invested in understanding our mission and adapting their technology to fit the hospice way.

Today, we’re seeing the benefits in real time, and as we look ahead, we’re excited to continue innovating together. Because for us, technology isn’t about efficiency alone—it’s about creating more space for dignity, comfort, and human connection at life’s most tender moments.

A huge thank-you to Girl Scout Troop 12081 of Waldorf for stepping up in such a big way for our 2025 Season of Giving, Season of Care program. 💚✨

Hospice of the Chesapeake is collecting non-perishable foods, toiletries, and essential safety items to support victims of Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica. Troop 12081’s generosity helps ensure that families impacted by this devastating storm receive much-needed comfort and care during a very difficult time.

We’re so grateful for their kindness, leadership, and commitment to helping others. 💛🌍
