Today, we remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a leader whose courage, compassion and commitment to justice continue to guide us.

His call to serve and lift others resonates deeply with our mission at Hospice of the Chesapeake. His question, "What are you doing for others?" sits at the center of who we are.

As we walk alongside patients and families, we witness the power of kindness, dignity and human connection. Dr. King's vision of a world rooted in understanding and hope inspires us to meet people where they are and create moments that matter.

Let's carry his legacy forward by strengthening our communities through compassion, service and the belief that we are stronger when we walk each other home.

Caregiving often defaults to one overwhelmed family member—especially when conversations happen too late.

Our January issue of The Referral shares new insights on caregiver strain, family dynamics, and why early hospice conversations lead to better outcomes for patients and families alike. Inside, you’ll find practical guidance, referral checklists, and tools designed to support clinicians and care teams across the continuum.

Because when families plan earlier, stress decreases—and care improves.
We’re proud to partner with you in making those conversations easier, sooner, and more effective.

We are deeply grateful to the Hells Angels Nomads Maryland for their generosity and continued support. For the second year in a row, their Christmas tree sales fundraiser raised $1,200 to help provide compassionate care for patients and families served by Hospice of the Chesapeake.

We also extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Varkey Mathew for providing a high-traffic location that made this fundraiser possible. Community partnerships like these truly make a difference.

Thank you for standing with us and for helping ensure care, comfort, and dignity for those who need it most.

A new year can bring hope, exhaustion, grief—or all of it at once. If you’re caring for someone with serious illness or carrying the weight of loss, please know this: you don’t have to do it alone. And you don't need to wait.

Hospice of the Chesapeake is here—through busy weeks, weekends, and holidays—to listen to, guide and support you.

If you have questions, we can answer them.
If you’re overwhelmed, we can help you plan the next step.
If you’re grieving, we can help you feel less alone.

Starting a conversation doesn’t mean making a commitment. It’s simply an opportunity to explore your options, share what you’re experiencing and discover what support might help make this season feel a little easier for you and those you care about.
