NOLS Wilderness Medicine’s Curriculum Director, Tod Schimelpfenig, is a thought leader among the wilderness medicine community. Tod began teaching for NOLS in 1973 and began teaching wilderness medicine in 1978. Tod is a founder of the Wilderness Risk Manager’s Committee, has served on the board of the Wilderness Medical Society, a society that sets standards for wilderness medicine curriculum, and has twice been awarded for his contributions to wilderness medicine. The curriculum books you read in your NOLS Wilderness Medicine courses are written by Tod! Tod has also served as an EMT and in Search and Rescue for the last 40+ years.
