Dr. Ashlee Reid, our Director of Early Childhood and Maternal Mental Health, is on a mission to help kids feel calmer and more confident at the doctor’s office—one playful step at a time! 🧸💕

She’s created special pediatric care kits filled with toys, games, and a fun “Teddy Bear Hospital” set, which is an internationally recognized way to help children build confidence and reduce anxiety through pretend play during their visits. Each kit is designed to turn a doctor’s visit into a more positive, engaging experience, and to offer parents simple ways to support their children.

(Psst… want to help us spread the care? Let us know your child’s pediatrician, and we’ll see if we can drop off a kit there next!)

Research shows that early experiences shape development in powerful ways, which is why we’re so excited about our new Infant & Early Childhood Program at the Institute and Flourish!

This program supports children ages 0–6 and their families through early intervention, prevention, and strengthening parent-child relationships.

We work with many families who feel exhausted by power struggles or defiance. This quote is a helpful reminder that strong-willed children often need extra support learning how to manage big feelings and impulses. Their intensity isn’t a flaw. It’s part of how they’re learning to navigate the world. With patience and connection, that strong will can become a powerful strength.

Every parent wants their child to grow up happy, healthy, and safe. But for parents of transgender and gender non-binary (TGNB) children, that journey can feel uniquely complex—especially in today’s climate of growing cultural hostility. Many families are left asking: How do I raise a thriving TGNB child in a world that doesn’t always see or support them?

Grounded in The Whole-Brain Child model by Daniel Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson, this training offers a brain-based, developmental framework for supporting TGNB children with compassion and clarity. When children are supported in integrating their thoughts, emotions, and lived experiences, they feel more secure—in their bodies, in their identities, and more grounded in an ever-changing world.

This training will introduce a new framework for understanding gender development and explore the distinct blocks to integration that TGNB children often face—such as gender dysphoria and minority stress—along with how to recognize and respond to them using attuned, whole-brain strategies.

This training is designed for clinicians, educators, and allied professionals who support TGNB children and their families.
