Dissociative Identity Disorder Awareness Day takes place on March 5 annually. The day is used to create awareness about D.I.D. People who have D.I.D. may feel like they have multiple personalities living in their bodies. These personalities may have different names, ages, genders, and appearances. D.I.D. is often misdiagnosed or not diagnosed at all. By raising awareness, the general public can gain a better understanding of the condition. It also helps to create validation for people with D.I.D. They can accept their multiplicity and share their experiences with others. People with D.I.D. are encouraged to share their stories online, at events, and with friends, family, and health professionals.

Color Therapy Month occurs in March each year, intending to inspire us to use colors to change our world. In the precise words of founder Eleyne-Mari, “Change your Colors…and you change your World!” So how exactly can one go about this? Well, the secret lies in an ancient practice of using color therapy to heal one’s energies. Before you dismiss this as ‘Hippie mumbo-jumbo’, take a second to think about how we all make use of different color choices to impact the way we feel. Whether it be in picking out an outfit or deciding on wall paint; on some level, we subconsciously make a decision based on how the colors affect our mood, feelings, and sensibilities. So perhaps there’s a rationale to this after all!

NAMI San Gabriel Valley hopes you enjoy Color Therapy Month!

Join us Wednesday, February 25th at 5:00pm on Zoom

Senate Bill (SB) 43 makes changes to the Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) Act – a California law governing involuntary detention, treatment, and conservatorship of people with behavioral health conditions.

SB 43 updates the LPS Act for the first time in more than 50 years by establishing new diagnostic criteria, broadening the definition of “grave disability” including for individuals with severe substance use disorders or co-occurring mental health conditions who cannot provide for their own safety or necessary medical care.

Learn about SB 43 with James Kwon, Deputy Director for the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (DMH), and Dr. Brian Hurley, Medical Director for Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC). A Q & A will follow the presentation.
