Happy “National Hot Dog Day”, Wednesday 7/16! Two European cities claim to be the birthplace of the sausage: Frankfurt, Germany, whence the byname frankfurter, and Vienna, Austria, whence the byname wiener. Frankfurt holds that it has been making the sausage for more than 500 years. Whatever its ultimate origins, German immigrants brought the food to New York in the 1860s, where street vendors sold them as “dachshund sausages,” presumably because of their shape. The first attestation of the phrase used in that sense dates to 1884, and by 1892 it was in widespread usage around the United States.

It’s with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our friend, Charles Montemayor. He was a good friend to many residents and staff in our community. Charles was a true lover of music and would always sing along with our music volunteers or play the keyboard. He also loved parties, volleyball and board games. Charles would graciously give up his prize winnings to others who did not win, true old fashion chivalry. His wife, Bertha, has always been there for him and assisting with all the festivities.
“When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure”.
