We are incredibly excited to welcome Dr. Joan Striebel to our Adelpha Pasadena team!

Joan Striebel, MD, is a board-certified adult psychiatrist at Adelpha Psychiatric Group in Pasadena, California and actively accepting new patients.

Before deciding to pursue medicine, Dr. Striebel taught in elementary schools, and her love of teaching has been a theme throughout her career. She attended medical school at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. After completing her residency at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Addiction Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, she spent ten years working in forensic settings, caring for patients with serious mental illness, providing psychopharmacology consultations, and teaching forensic psychopharmacology to Forensic Fellows.

Dr. Striebel has specialized expertise in treating psychosis and substance use disorders, particularly opioid use disorder. She completed a visiting fellowship in ECT and has served as an expert witness on ECT cases, has been a podcast guest discussing catatonia, and has written several book chapters related to serious mental illness and addiction.

She is a voluntary Clinical Assistant Professor and a teaching attending at the UCLA Psychosis Clinic.

We'd like to send a very belated, albeit excited, welcome to Sarah! Sarah has joined our Adelpha TMS Encino team as a treater and is already working closely with the team to help provide treatments in Encino.

Sarah earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from California State University, Northridge. During her studies, she participated in research studying the effects of a positive growth mindset on success.

Following her graduation, Sarah worked as an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) technician, providing support to children on the autism spectrum. She found this role to be deeply rewarding and meaningful. Currently, she is in the process of applying to master’s programs to become a Marriage and Family Therapist in California.

Sarah’s responsibilities include administering Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) treatment to patients, scheduling new TMS patients and follow-up visits for existing patients, submitting prior authorizations, performing point of care testing, taking, and recording vital signs, and facilitating communication between physicians and patients.

We're super excited to welcome Dr. Jennifer Cohenmehr to the Adelpha Encino team. She is accepting new patients for in-person and telehealth visits.

Dr. Cohenmehr is a board-certified adult psychiatrist. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences with a minor in Music from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and her Master’s in Public Health from UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. Her medical education was completed at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, where she demonstrated her commitment to patient care by creating a therapeutic arts group, leading a student-run mobile clinic for underserved communities, and being elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society for her dedication to humanism in medicine.

During her psychiatry residency at UCLA-Resnick Neuropsychiatric Institute, Dr. Cohenmehr served as Chief of Community and Global Psychiatry and focused on Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and women’s mental health, including reproductive psychiatry.

Dr. Cohenmehr has specialized expertise in treating anxiety disorders, mood disorders, perinatal mood disorders, trauma-related disorders, psychotic disorders, and ADHD. She utilizes evidence-based psychopharmacology and various psychotherapy modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and mentalization-based therapy (MBT). Dr. Cohenmehr’s approach incorporates lifestyle interventions to address the unique needs of each patient, promoting holistic well-being.

A very warm welcome to Jose Amezcua, our TMS Treater and Office Assistant based out of our Pasadena office.

Jose graduated from Pasadena City College with associate degrees in psychology, social and behavioral science, and child and adolescent development before earning his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. During his studies, he conducted research on mental health in prisons and prison reform.

Jose is committed to providing high-quality care and ensuring that all patients receive the best possible treatments with our team. He plans to further his education by pursuing a master’s degree in applied psychology, with the goal of addressing the root causes of mental health issues through public policy.

A very belated welcome to Dr. Esther Kim! We are happy to have her join us at Adelpha Pasadena.

Dr. Kim is a board-eligible adult psychiatrist practicing at Adelpha Psychiatric Group in Pasadena, California. She has a diverse background in both music and psychiatry. Dr. Kim earned her BA in Music with a minor in Biology and Chemistry. She continued on to earn her MD from Wake Forest School of Medicine, where she conducted pivotal research on depression and anxiety management in patients with epilepsy, studying innovative mental health care models and screening tools for epilepsy patients. In addition, she also founded the Wake Forest Musical Outreach Program, organizing musical events and concerts for individuals in the community.

Dr. Kim completed her psychiatry residency at the UCLA-Resnick Neuropsychiatric Institute, where she also served as chief resident of the UCLA Consult-Liaison and Psychiatric Emergency Room Services. She is highly active and passionate about the intersection of music and psychiatry, participating in the Mindful Music series at UCLA and in musical storytelling research projects that highlight resilience and help reduce the stigma of mental illness.

Dr. Kim specializes in the treatment of mood, anxiety, and psychotic disorders and has interests in women's mental health and reproductive psychiatry as well. She adopts an integrative approach to care, emphasizing the importance of mindfulness, exercise, diet, and lifestyle. In addition to her expertise in psychopharmacology, Dr. Kim is well-versed in several evidence-based psychotherapies, including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. She also has experience in neuromodulation, specifically transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).

Outside of her professional life, and as a classically trained violinist, Dr. Kim regularly enjoys playing and performing music with friends. Additionally, she is an avid yogi, enjoys cooking and baking, and is a dedicated dog mom, raising her spunky Pomeranian, Schumann (named after the composer Robert Schumann).

Adelpha Psychiatric Group is pleased to now offer NeuroStar TMS treatments! If you are struggling with depression and interested in exploring other treatment options, TMS may be the possibility you are looking for. TMS is not a drug, “shock” therapy or surgery. And it has none of the side effects associated with traditional antidepressants.

TMS is indicated for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder in adult patients who have failed to receive satisfactory improvement from prior antidepressant medication in the current episode. TMS is also intended to be used as an adjunct for the treatment of adult patients suffering from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). TMS is only available by prescription. A belated but very happy welcome to Dr. Rahael Gupta! She has joined our Adelpha Pasadena team and is actively accepting new patients.

Rahael Gupta, MD, is a board-certified adult psychiatrist and board-eligible child and adolescent psychiatrist at Adelpha Psychiatric Group in Pasadena, California.

Dr. Gupta earned her BA in Human Biology from Stanford University and her MS in Narrative Medicine from Columbia University. She went on to earn her MD from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, where she was awarded the Raymond W. Waggoner Award for distinguished performance in psychiatry.

Dr. Gupta completed adult psychiatry residency training and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at UCLA, serving as Program Chief Fellow and pursuing the Parent and Infant Mental Health Area of Distinction. During her fellowship, she became a certified facilitator of the Circle of Security International Early Intervention Program for Parents and Children (an attachment-based, reflective parenting program), facilitating groups for new mothers at UCLA’s Perinatal Intensive Outpatient Program. She received the 2024 UCLA Gertrude Rogers Greenblatt Award in Child Psychiatry, given to one fellow annually noted for their “deeply humane commitment to children and families requiring psychiatric care.”

Dr. Gupta has specialized training in psychopharmacology and psychotherapy for anxiety disorders, mood disorders, ADHD, eating disorders, and neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism. She has experience with a wide variety of therapeutic techniques, including cognitive behavioral therapy, family-focused therapy, exposure and response prevention, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and executive function coaching. She is committed to a holistic and trauma-informed approach to care.
