Kellum Lewis, LMFT

Kellum Lewis, LMFT I and my team stand by to support you as best we can. We stand for the dignity of every person. There are a lot of reasons why people start therapy.

What I've noticed is that most people seek therapy when they've come to some sort of impasse or they're going through a transition in their lives. Many individuals and couples seek therapy when conflict arises in their relationship and they're trying to decide if they should stay in the relationship or transition out of it. Other folks come to therapy when they feel they need support as they deal with loss, depression, anxiety, etc., often the result of situations in their lives that haven't worked out the way they'd planned. Whatever brings you to therapy, I'll work to help you understand the dynamics of your situation so you can feel more confident and grounded in your feelings, your outlook and your decisions. With your open attitude and willingness to engage in the process, I feel confident I can help with:

+Relationship issues such as conflict, communication and infidelity

+Family issues such as parent-child conflict, communication and compromise

+Depression

+Anxiety

+Obsession & Compulsion

+Addiction (such as alcohol and other drugs, love/sex/pornography/internet addiction, gambling and shopping addiction)

+Coming out

+Self-esteem

+Grief and loss

+Making decisions

+Issues related to being gay, le***an, bisexual or transgender

+Work and financial concerns

+Adjusting to new circumstances

+Finding and keeping love

I can demonstrate how I work effectively to get to the core of your concerns in a free initial phone call. To speak with me and see how I can help, call me at (323) 860-8782 or send me a private message through this site.

Pro tip: Children are people too!

If you find that you and your child are butting heads regularly over the same issue, then you need to work through it together. If you don't engage your child in this process you are just setting yourself up for another power struggle. Try and sit down with your child when you are both calm and just simply say things aren't working. Have them try and come up with ideas what else could happen. If the ideas aren't what you think will work, then talk through what would happen if we did that. Offer suggestions but be willing to listen if they have a problem with that. You may have to bend a bit. Remember having them obey you without question is not a win, they will only feel controlled and want to rebel. Having them come up with ideas that you can both agree on means they are more likely to comply, but also they will feel valued.

Epigenetic traces of childhood trauma can be used as biomarkers to predict the risk of addiction, depression, and a range of other physical and mental health issues 17 years later.

I'm posting this article primarily for clinicians. I've read a couple of things suggesting SARS-CoV-2 attacks the vascular system, the body's veins, arteries and capillaries. Doctors say this could result in dementia and other brain disorders not typically associated with viral infection.

Another tragic end to a potentially brilliant life. 😭 Parents, please take the initiative to talk to your children about sexual and gender orientation BEFORE they bring it up. If you’re not sure how to do that, reach out (for instance, to a therapist or support group) or research online. LGBTQ kids need help in navigating coming out and managing homophobic environments.

Several years ago Jim and I made contact online, via Facebook I think, and I got to see the good work he's doing to spread the word that there is help and support for gay people struggling to come out, especially for people who've endured shaming religious indoctrination and abuse to their sexual natures.

I'm passing along his new resource page (and website, Silent G**s) in hopes that someone who could use support around coming out or other related issues will feel encouraged to explore and embrace their deeper natures in moving toward a vision of self-love and respect.
