When I was young I used to worry about other people not liking me.

Years later my first therapist Joyce, (I’ll never forget her she changed my life) asked me,

“Barb, do you like everyone?” I said no. She replied, “Then why are you worried about everyone liking you? That’s impossible!”

It was the biggest freedom to finally understand that there’s nothing wrong with you just because someone doesn’t like you.

Trying to make everyone happy is impossible.

What really matters is whether or not you like yourself.

Focus your energy there, and never apologize for being you.💖

(Do not put out your fire because someone else doesn’t understand your flame.-)

When I get confused, annoyed, or disheartened by someone’s behavior I repeat the words of Maya Angelou as my affirmation of truth:

“When people show you who they are believe them.”🌼

(Don’t match anyone’s mean energy. Maintain yours so you can attract what aligns with you.-unknown)

Remember we can never change another person we can only change our response to their behavior.

So when someone repeatedly disrespects you, is dishonest, abusive, racist, or manipulative it’s up to you to stop playing in their game.

You’re not a victim, you are being victimized, but never take on the title of victim to describe yourself.

(I’ve been choosing peace over people lately. So far no regrets.-unknown)
