Quick Speech Milestone Chart ❤️
To parents of children with already identified communication delays- feel free to scroll past this post, you’ve already identified your child benefits from support and these numbers are not relevant - your child’s progress is ❤️
To parents considering a speech and language evaluation: It can be really difficult for parents to know when to get a speech and language evaluation - especially when they are constantly bombarded with various information and it’s difficult to know what to believe or what is best for your child.
It also gets tricky because there is a HUGE range of average communication development, and commutations skills are way more and way broader than I could include in a “quick” guide. As a result, I always recommend to get an evaluation if you - or anyone else - thinks one is needed. Often that means trusting your gut as a parent, but I think it’s equally important to trust if someone else thinks it’s necessary too.
The truth is: some kids qualify and demonstrate a need for intervention and some don’t- you won’t know unless you see a speech pathologist! AND just because a child does not qualify at one time in their life, does not mean they will not at a later time.
