🫀 WEAR RED DAY | AMERICAN HEART MONTH 🫀

So many women put themselves last.
They take care of their children.
Their partners.
Their parents.
Their jobs.
Everyone else comes first — until one day, their health demands attention 🚩

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States — claiming more lives each year than all forms of cancer combined. Yet for many women, the signs don’t arrive loudly. They arrive quietly, subtly, and are often brushed off or misunderstood.

Unusual or persistent fatigue.
Shortness of breath with minimal activity.
Lightheadedness or nausea.
Jaw, neck, shoulder, or back discomfort.
A pressure or heaviness that doesn’t feel “textbook.”

These are not “nothing.”
These are real warning signs 🩺🫀

At Apex Heart & Vascular, we see this every single day — women who delayed care because they were busy caring for others, women who were told their symptoms were stress or anxiety, women whose cardiovascular disease could have been identified earlier.

That’s why today matters.

We are proud to officially partner with the (American Heart Association ) to stand behind a message that saves lives:
Awareness leads to action. Early detection changes outcomes.

Nearly 1 in 2 women over the age of 20 is living with cardiovascular disease.
Up to 80% of heart disease is preventable with education, lifestyle changes, and proactive cardiovascular care.
Heart disease affects women at every stage of life — from menstruation and pregnancy to menopause and beyond 🎗️

Wear Red Day exists to remind women to trust their instincts.
To speak up when something doesn’t feel right.
To stop minimizing symptoms that deserve evaluation 🚨

Today, our team wears red for the women we care for — and the women we love ❤️
For our moms.
Our grandmothers.
Our sisters.
Our friends.

🫀 If you’re reading this, let it be your reminder:
Your health matters.
Your symptoms matter.
And taking care of yourself is not selfish — it’s necessary.

🦵 Up to 40% of adults have chronic venous insufficiency — and many don’t realize it. 🫀

“I lived with leg heaviness, swelling, and pain for over 10 years.”

For Orsi, long hours on her feet led to chronic leg heaviness, swelling (edema), pressure, stiffness, and fatigue — symptoms she lived with for years without a diagnosis.

After a full venous evaluation at Apex Heart & Vascular Care, the cause became clear.

She underwent vein ablation ➜ followed by sclerotherapy, minimally invasive procedures designed to improve circulation and relieve venous disease 🩻🫀

The outcome:
🦵 Relief the same day
⬇️ Reduced heaviness and pressure
🚶‍♀️ Back to walking and daily activity

If you’re experiencing heavy legs, swelling, or pain after standing, there may be a treatable vascular cause 🫀🩺

“Sentía que caminaba con un peso enorme en cada pierna…
hoy camino con tranquilidad y paz.”

“It felt like I was carrying an enormous weight in each leg…
today, I walk with calm and peace.”

At 75, Ana Gracia came to us wanting to keep her independence.

Walking had become exhausting.
Stairs felt out of reach.
The heaviness in her legs affected both her body and her spirit.

After a minimally invasive treatment and care delivered with patience and humanity, she’s moving forward again — walking confidently, climbing stairs, and exercising without fear. 🚶‍♀️

Her message to other patients is simple: don’t be afraid.
The procedure was manageable, not traumatic, and the reward was getting her freedom back.

This is why restoring mobility matters.
Movement brings independence.
Independence brings peace.

If leg pain or heaviness is limiting your ability to walk, call our office.
We’re here to listen and help you understand your options.

The scariest heart symptoms are the ones that come and go — fainting out of nowhere, sudden dizziness, random palpitations… and then everything looks “normal” by the time you reach the doctor. ⚠️

That’s exactly why we use an Insertable Loop Recorder (ILR) at Apex Heart & Vascular 🫀
It’s a tiny device, about the size of a paperclip, placed just under the skin to quietly track your heart rhythm 24/7 for years. No hospital stay. No stitches. Quick, in-office procedure ✅

We rely on ILRs when:
– Symptoms are unpredictable (fainting, lightheadedness, irregular heartbeat)
– There’s concern for atrial fibrillation or other arrhythmias
– Someone has had an unexplained stroke
– Medications like beta blockers need close monitoring

The ILR shows us what your heart is doing in real life, not just during a short EKG or a one-day monitor. For many patients, it’s the tool that finally brings real answers and a safer plan forward 🔍

An ILR is one of the lowest-risk, highest-yield tools in modern cardiology. If you have any questions please reach out to our office.

💢 Every step shouldn’t hurt.
If knee pain has slowed you down — even after therapy, medications, or injections — there’s finally a proven option that doesn’t require major surgery.

At Apex Heart & Vascular, our specialists offer Genicular Artery Embolization (G*E) — a minimally invasive procedure that targets the source of osteoarthritis pain: chronic inflammation inside the knee joint.

💡 What Is G*E?

G*E is an advanced, image-guided treatment that blocks the tiny abnormal blood vessels feeding inflammation in your knee — while preserving healthy blood flow.
By reducing this abnormal circulation, swelling and pain decrease, allowing you to move more comfortably and regain mobility.

⚙️ How It Works

🏥 Outpatient procedure — no hospital stay
✂️ No incision, no stitches
💤 Light sedation for comfort
🚶 You walk out the same day
⏳ Noticeable improvement within weeks
📈 Relief that can last 1–3 years

📊 Results You Can Feel

✅ Average 50–60% pain reduction within one month
✅ 80% of patients maintain relief for a year or more
✅ MRI studies show decreased inflammation — and no cartilage or bone damage
✅ Many patients move better, rely less on pain meds, and return to everyday activities

👥 Who It Helps Most

G*E is ideal for people with moderate knee arthritis who:
• Want to delay or avoid knee replacement
• Haven’t found relief from injections or therapy
• Need a low-risk, nonsurgical alternative
• Want to stay active and independent again

💙 Why Choose Apex Heart & Vascular

Apex is one of New Jersey’s leading centers for image-guided, minimally invasive treatments.
Our multidisciplinary team combines vascular expertise, advanced imaging, and compassionate care — delivering real, lasting results without surgery.

✨ Don’t let knee pain decide what you can do.
Find out if G*E is right for you and start moving comfortably again.

🌍🩸 October 13 is World Thrombosis Day, a global reminder that blood clots can strike silently — and anyone can be at risk. Serena Williams once said, “I was literally on my deathbed,” after surviving a postpartum pulmonary embolism — a moment that shows just how dangerous clots can be.

Blood clots can form in arteries and veins. Arterial clots lead to heart attacks and strokes ❤️🧠, while venous clots cause Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE) — sometimes leading to chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) 🦵🏽. Thrombosis is behind 1 in 4 deaths globally, and in the U.S. alone, it affects nearly 900,000 people a year, with up to 100,000 lives lost annually.

The truth is, thrombosis often stays invisible — until it affects someone in the spotlight. NBA star Chris Bosh’s career ended due to blood clots. Victor Wembanyama, Damian Lillard, and Gal Gadot have all faced clot-related conditions despite being in peak shape. Their stories highlight what so many experience quietly.

But medicine has come a long way. Thanks to major trials like EINSTEIN-DVT, ATTRACT, and PEERLESS, we now have safer and more effective treatments — from next-gen oral anticoagulants to catheter-directed thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy for severe cases.

At Apex Heart & Vascular, Dr. Anuj Shah and our team bring all these tools together — from advanced clot removal and IVC filters, to PERT team coordination and long-term management for post-thrombotic syndrome. Prevention is just as important: we emphasize early mobilization, compression therapy, and risk assessment in every hospital setting.

💡 What can you do?
• Know the signs: leg pain or swelling, chest pain, shortness of breath.
• Move often & hydrate to prevent clots.
• Ask your healthcare team about clot prevention when hospitalized.
• Share stories like Serena’s, Bosch, and Gal Gadot, — because awareness saves lives.

Let’s make this World Thrombosis Day more than just a date. Let’s make it a movement. Together, we can prevent clots, protect limbs, and save lives. ❤️💪🏽

🧦 As PAD Awareness Month comes to a close, our Apex Heart & Vascular team is proud to rock one white sock for the White Sock Campaign – a simple symbol for a serious cause. We stand in solidarity with PAD patients and amputees, and we’re starting conversations that save lives.

PAD (Peripheral Arterial Disease) affects over 10 million Americans , yet it often goes undiagnosed until it’s too late. The result? About 150,000 Americans undergo leg amputations every year – and shockingly, half of those happen without any prior vascular screening . It doesn’t have to be this way.

Early diagnosis is everything. A quick, non-invasive test – an Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI), Toe-Brachial Index (TBI), or vascular ultrasound – can catch PAD in time to treat it. That means fewer amputations and more lives saved.

This month, we partnered with Save A Leg, Save A Life () – a national nonprofit leading the fight to reduce preventable amputations through community education and early detection . Together, we’ve been out in the community raising awareness, providing screenings, and proving that prevention is possible.

To our Apex team: thank you for pouring your hearts into this cause all month long – from educating patients to screening those at risk. We’ve made a difference, but our work isn’t done. 💪

Let’s keep the momentum going beyond September. Know your risk. Get screened. Talk to your doctor about PAD. Share this message. Every conversation and early test could mean another leg saved, another life kept whole.

Join us in the fight to end PAD – together, let’s save legs and lives.

Today is World Heart Day — and a reminder that heart health isn’t just about cholesterol or blood pressure. It’s also about your legs.

Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is more than a leg problem. It’s a red flag for dangerous cardiovascular disease. People living with PAD are six times more likely to suffer a heart attack (JACC, 2020).

This matters because PAD is common — affecting over 8.5 million Americans — and too often goes undiagnosed until it’s advanced. But early detection is possible with simple, non-invasive tests such as ABI (ankle–brachial index), TBI (toe–brachial index), and vascular ultrasound. Identifying PAD early gives patients the chance to start guideline-based medical therapy, control risk factors, and, when needed, revascularize before tissue loss or heart attack occurs.

During PAD Awareness Month, we’re proud to partner with the Save A Leg, Save A Life Foundation () to raise awareness and bring education and screening to the patients who need it most. Together, we’re working to close the gap between early detection and life-saving intervention.

If you have diabetes, smoke, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or a history of heart disease, ask about PAD testing. Early recognition protects not just your legs — but your heart.

✈️ Claudication → Ischemia → Amputation. For too many patients with Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), this is the journey when the disease isn’t caught in time.

📊 The numbers tell the story:
- PAD affects more than 8.5 million Americans.
- Every 2 minutes, someone in the U.S. undergoes a major limb amputation.
- Nearly 50% of those amputations happen without any prior vascular test (JAMA Surgery, 2018).
- After a major amputation, the 5-year mortality is 40–70% — higher than breast, colon, or prostate cancer.

🩺 What makes PAD especially dangerous is that it often hides. Up to half of patients have no symptoms at all — no leg pain, no claudication. For many, the first sign is a wound that won’t heal… or an amputation.

✅ But there’s good news: PAD can be detected early with minimally invasive testing. ABI, TBI, vascular ultrasound, and stress testing can uncover disease long before it turns into critical limb ischemia.

📖 The science is clear.
BEST-CLI showed that with good vein conduit, bypass lowers limb events and death. BASIL-2 proved that an endovascular-first approach improves amputation-free survival. VOYAGER-PAD confirmed that adding low-dose rivaroxaban to aspirin after revascularization reduces both cardiovascular and limb events.

🤝 This September, during PAD Awareness Month, we are proud to partner with the Save A Leg, Save A Life Foundation ( ). SALSAL’s work in communities nationwide — raising awareness, improving access to screenings, and uniting physicians — is making a real impact. Together, we share one mission: no patient should face amputation before being offered vascular testing.

👉 If you or someone you care for is over 60, has diabetes, a smoking history, or non-healing wounds — don’t wait for symptoms. Ask about PAD testing. Early diagnosis doesn’t just save limbs. It saves lives.
