What if you knew exactly where you were going and you were being led by a spirited herd of donkeys?

Recently a client noticed that there was one donkey facing out to a nearby field. That field was clear and filled with sunlight. She labeled that field - her future. As she looked around the field she and the donkey were currently in she noted it was full of mess and areas where grass was missing. This helped her realize that the future always is ahead of you, but the choices you make in the present really matter. She decided she didn't want to wait for the better future to arrive, she wanted to make the present better. What a great first step!

This Veterans Day we are thrilled to share new research about mental health services for veterans that incorporate horses.

Last week the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (Eagala) announced the publication of a landmark peer-reviewed study in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH). This research represents a major step forward in establishing the Eagala Model as an evidence-based approach to trauma treatment.

Conducted across 12 Eagala-designated sites with 107 active-duty military and veteran participants, the study found:
- Significant reductions in PTSD symptoms, depression, and disability
- Increased life satisfaction among participants
- Exceptionally high treatment completion rates, far exceeding those typically seen in traditional psychotherapy

We look forward to more research to help everyone access this healthcare.

Mental health problems don't disappear when it gets cold and neither do we!

The barns we partner with in Pataskala and Galena have indoor spaces where we can bring horses for our sessions. These spaces are not temperature controlled, so clients will still need to bundle up, but they do make it easier to have sessions in all types of weather.

We were so thrilled to be a part of a program with the Nisonger Center to offer groups to support adults with developmental disabilities and their direct service providers.
We were able to have two teams working with different herds so the adult clients and their providers could engage in different activities to help them meet their goals.

Several of the surveys mentioned that the horses were very kind and many of the group activities focused on building relationships in way that felt good to the people and the horses.

It has been so great to work on this project with one of our past interns, Jess Sable, who is so passionate about supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. We are a part of a great community of healers and helpers!
