Welcome in the Wisdom of Your Body: Nutritional and emotional support to ease the trip through perimenopause and menopause.

When we talk about Perimenopause and Menopause we associate it with all the challenges that come along with this change in our lives. In this workshop, Alicia and Heather will focus on the foods that can ease your body through this transition and other tools to support you in feeling stronger, wiser, calmer and cooler.

The mainstream approach to taking care of our bodies is through willpower and diets. The latest research shows that we need to bring the brain/nervous system into the picture when looking at behaviors related to our body and food. Our hunger cues, satiation cues, body image and capacity to change a behavior are all reliant on regulating the nervous system. When we restrict our food, try to stick to impossible diets and overexercise we dysregulate our nervous systems and this keeps us stuck in that loop we often call self sabotage. BFYB is a unique approach in that it focuses on balancing the nervous system so we can hear the signals of our bodies. Our bodies know how to fuel us. Our bodies want us to be kind to them. Our bodies want us to listen to them. Learning to listen to our bodies is what we do in this program. Our next group begins Sept. 24. Registration closes Sept. 12. Please share this important work with anyone you know who may want to create more peace and ease in their relationship with their bodies, food and body image.

Shame is an emotion we all experience but we rarely talk about. Many people carry heavy burdens of shame - shame about what their bodies look like, shame about how they have treated their bodies and shame about how others have treated their bodies. In BFYB we gently and openly process shame and redefine it as the wish to be seen, heard and understood. Imagine meeting yourself with understanding and kindness rather than shame. It can make a profound difference in how we feel about ourselves and how we take care of our bodies.

The human nervous system needs co-regulation. We can find that in a person that can help us breathe and find internal calmness when we are stressed. We can create that with another person by building safe and supportive friendships through active listening and holding space for each other’s emotions. I love co facilitating BFYB with one of my favorite co-regulators. As our friendship grows, so does our purpose and passion for doing this work. Nervous system regulation is a core part of the BFYB program. When we breathe and learn to create a calm space inside we can create more peace and ease in our bodies and our relationship with food. There is a practice in BFYB called “Name 10 things.” It is a mindfulness tool. Before I learned this practice, my endless “to do” list would consume my mind on my walks. Now I do this practice. Today I was walking in my mom’s neighborhood, noticing all the different trees here in the Pine Barrens. I decided to find 10 trees that caught my eye. Noticing the trees quieted my mind, allowed me to breathe deeper and brought more overall calmness to my body. A much different experience than ruminating about all the s**t I need “to do.” On your next walk, give this practice a try. Mindfulness is a core part of the BFYB program. You’re warmly invited to join us for the August Queen’s Circle. This month, we’re exploring a theme that is deeply purposeful: Self Love & Sacred Ritual.
As women, in the flow of life, it’s easy to pour our energy into others, caring, supporting, and showing up, while quietly putting our own needs last.
But what if your well-being came first?
What if your joy, rest, and inner peace were approached equally to everything else on your to-do list?
In this circle, we’ll reconnect with simple ways to choose ourselves again and again, through movement, reflection, connection, and intentional practices that ground us in self love.

BFYB taught me to listen to my body. I used to push myself until exhaustion. I used to push my body until she was in pain or got sick so that I would have to give her a break. Rest always choose me. Since being a participant in BFYB and now as an Advanced Certified Teacher, I know how to choose rest. I hear the subtle messages of my body telling me to take a break. I am allowed to take a break. My hammock under my willow is my favorite place to do just that. What’s your favorite place to take a break ?

Holistic Health Coach

The mission of Heather’s Healing Kitchen is to support you in having a healthy relationship with food and develop the skills to prepare healing meals that support your mind, body and spirit.

I have fifteen years experience working in a variety of health and counseling settings with adolescents, adults, and families. That professional experience taught me to actively listen, support, and empathize with challenges that face us as we try to live a healthy and happy life.

After a significant health crisis of my own, I took time off to focus on healing my body and mind. Following a holistic approach, I used nutrition, chiropractic, meditation, massage and other natural techniques.

In March 2017, I completed the Health Coach Program at the Institute for Integrated Nutrition. I am now combining my professional and personal experiences to provide you with a supportive environment to heal your body and your mind.
