This photo isn’t symbolic. It’s not staged. It’s the literal truth of what we’re facing: an empty pallet where bags of dog food once sat. By the end of next week, we will have nothing left to feed the dogs in our care. Nothing.

These are good dogs. Dogs who’ve already been failed once or twice by people. Dogs who are trusting us to give them a better tomorrow — and right now, we can’t even promise them a meal.

CITY OF PAULS VALLEY ANIMAL WELFARE NOTICE

On March 19, 2025, at approximately 1:50 PM, Pauls Valley Animal Welfare responded to a report of a lethargic skunk at the 400 block of West Cemetery Lane. The skunk was safely secured and sent for testing.

Today, we received confirmation from the state lab: the skunk tested positive for rabies.

We urge all residents to take the following precautions:
• Ensure your pets are up to date on their rabies vaccinations. It’s not just the law—it’s protection for your animals and your family.
• Do not approach or handle wildlife that appears sick, unusually friendly, or is active during the day.
• Report any animal exhibiting strange behavior, or if you or your pets had any possible contact with this skunk or other wildlife in the area, by calling Animal Welfare at 405-238-1303.

Rabies is a fatal but preventable disease. Prompt action saves lives—please help us protect our community.
