More than one million Americans have a heart attack each year and about 500,000 die of heart disease. High blood cholesterol is one of the major risk factors for heart disease, causing heart attack and stroke.

Cholesterol is a fat-like substance in your blood. Your body, specifically your liver, makes all the cholesterol you need. The rest comes from what you eat, namely foods high in saturated and trans fat, such as meat, poultry, full-fat dairy products, and tropical oils such as palm oil, palm kernel oil, and coconut oil.

Starbucks announced the Pumpkin Spice Latte is out for the fall season this week, OU & OSU football kickoff this week, even though we still have have some hot temps, it’s basically fall right??!

Chronic pain is common

The CDC estimates that 20% of Americans, nearly 50 million adults in the United States are dealing with chronic pain.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a scan that uses strong magnets and radio waves to see inside the body. An MRI is a non-invasive way for a doctor to examine the organs, tissues, and skeletal system.

In the past, MRIs have come with a sense of reluctance and anxiety for patients, as most MRI machines are cylindrical and closed on all sides. Because MRIs take longer than other forms of imaging, many patients have reported feelings of extreme claustrophobia while using the traditional closed MRIs.

In some cases, the patient’s size may make it impossible to have a traditional closed scan.

CareFirst Wellness Associates in Chickasha is home to one of the only OPEN MRI machines in Southwest and Southcentral Oklahoma. Open MRIs are just like they sound, OPEN, on all 4 sides.

This decreases the risk of claustrophobia and panic attacks exponentially and allows patients of all shapes and sizes to be able to make use of an MRI to accurately diagnose their problems.
