Jacqueline Ruth Reynolds-Hayward

Jacqueline Reynolds-Hayward, a dedicated teacher, beloved mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the age of 63. She was a longtime resident of Mattawan and Paw Paw.

Born on January 14, 1962, in Green Bay, Newfoundland, Canada, Jacquie was the daughter of Robert and Margaret (Gilbert) Reynolds. She was also lovingly connected to her birth mother, Betty Sims.

Once her children were in school, she embarked on her second passion: teaching, where she spent many years in Van Buren County schools. Working with young students was truly her calling, a role where her kindness and patience shone brightest.

In her free time, Jacquie was an enthusiastic crafter and knitter, always creating something beautiful for those she loved. Above all else, her biggest love was spending time with her grandchildren.

Jacquie was preceded in death by her husband George Hayward and her parents.

Surviving are her four sons, Kevin (Kayla) Hayward, Joshua (Paula) Hayward, Brian (Katie) Hayward, Michael (Alyssa) Hayward; two daughters, Daria (John) Hayward and Aubrey (Chris) Hayward; ten grandchildren, Claire, Addalyn, Chase, Harper, Camila, Hadley, Amelia, Wyatt, Hudson and Roman; sister, Holly (Bob) Herriges; and her family in Canada.

A reception to celebrate Jacqueline's life will be held on Saturday, November 15th, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Antwerp Township Hall.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Supplies for Success.

Cathy Paluch

Cathy Paluch, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother (Ooma), daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend who passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 30th, 2025. Born Catherine Caroline Bovie on October 28, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of David Bovie and Lucille (Osborn) Bovie.

After graduating from Evergreen Park High School she started a secretarial career. On October 26, 1969, she married her high school sweetheart Gary Paluch, who she met at the age of 13. They honeymooned at Holmes Resort on Three Mile Lake where Gary’s family had vacationed for many years. On August 22, 1971, she was blessed by the birth of her only child Jennifer (Jen Jen).

In 1975 they moved from Evergreen Park, IL to purchase Holmes Resort and it became known as Paluch’s Resort. She managed the resort and together with her husband they ran a successful business of 7 cabins and a camping spot for 14 summers, welcoming repeat vacationers from Memorial Day through Grape and Wine Festival weekend. Even though vacationers were sad to end their week stay at the resort, they were excited for the sendoff from the final Friday night bonfire where Cathy’s beautiful voice was a highlight alongside Gary’s singing and guitar playing. Every week their much-anticipated final song was “They Call the Wind Maria”. When Cathy sang “Maaa-rye-eeeah” her voice seemed to echo over the lake. Every New Year’s Eve the phone would be taken off the hook and would be hung back up at 8:00am New Year’s Day. The phone would ring immediately, and Cathy would spend her day at her desk in the back room of the house taking reservations for the upcoming summer from nonstop phone calls. The repeat vacationers became more than customers, some became very close friends. They would end the season with a pig roast that was enjoyed by family and friends.

In 1986, she and her family moved to Eagle Pass, TX for a new opportunity in life. After 3 eventful years of making new friends and memories they decided to move back to Paw Paw to build a dream home where two of the cabins on the resort once stood. Throughout the years Cathy continued her secretarial career for several local businesses like Red Arrow Animal Clinic, Musselman’s Applesauce and Bronson Paw Paw Facility. On New Year’s Day 2000 she remarried her husband, Gary. That same year she welcomed her first grandson Joseph “Joey” Gary Ujka who she taught to say “Ooooo-ooooma”, thus Ooma became her official name. In 2022 she welcomed her second grandson Eric “E-rock” Ujka. Ooma and her boys had many adventures having fun and being silly.

Cathy was blessed with a life full of adventures. Even surviving 5 heart surgeries, she kept on truckin along. She loved animals and had many pets she would give her heart and soul to. Cathy had many hobbies through the years like bowling, fishing, camping, crafts, cross stitch, feeding the hummingbirds and orioles, gardening, spending time with friends and family, and mostly crocheting. During retirement she enjoyed the Paw Paw Senior Citizen Club where she would crochet hats for cancer patients with her friends. She also cherished her view of Three Mile Lake. When the sun would hit the water just right, she would say “Her diamonds on the lake were sparkling!”

Cathy is survived by her loving husband Gary Paluch, cherished daughter Jennifer Paluch, adored grandsons Joseph (Alex Schultz) Ujka and Eric Ujka, her earliest memories will live on with through the love she had and received from her siblings David (Carol) Bovie, Patty (Richard) Moir, and Marie Bovie. Her love and laughter will be missed by all, including caring and fun-loving cousins Skip (Judy) Lubinski, as well as many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Following a long and blessed life, we can look to the stars and know she will be welcomed into heaven with the open arms of our Lord, family, dear friends, and loved pets. “Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.” She would always tell Jennifer, Joey, and Eric “I love you up to the sky and down again and all around the world!”. As the sun sets, we know that Cathy is at peace now knowing she loved fully, will be remembered with love, and is still loved unconditionally with her final words that were for Gary - “I love you too”.

Family and friends are invited to her celebration of life on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home, 502 W. Michigan Avenue, Paw Paw.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Cathy’s name to the American Heart Association, Leukemia Lymphoma Society, Make-A-Wish, or your local animal shelter.

She was born June 4, 1956, in Saint Joseph, Michigan, the daughter of George McCloud and Anna (Rider) McCloud.

Jeanne worked for Village Market and Mancino's for many years before retiring last year. Since retiring, she took up the hobby of crafting and decorated her space with countless handmade crafts. She loved decorating her apartment complex for the different seasons and holidays and gift giving to her friends and family.

Jeanne loved nature and the outdoors. She could often be found watching the birds, deer, mushroom hunting and going for nature walks. One of her favorite memories was going to Kensington Metro Park and feeding the birds right from the palm of her hand. She was also surprised with her dream vacation to Yellowstone National Park, where she got to experience the beauty of the park and stay in a cabin.

She was an extremely hard worker but also a tough and independent woman, stubborn at times, but she truly cared and loved her friends and family to the fullest extent. Jeanne is preceded in passing by her parents, grandson, Danny Rigoni; great-granddaughter, Addisyn Rigoni and brother, Joe McCloud.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home, 502 W. Michigan Avenue, Paw Paw. A memorial service will begin at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Duane Jones officiating.

Memorial contributions in memory of Jeanne may be directed to your local schools for arts and crafts supplies. Jeanne loved her crafts and would want our children to be able to express their talent and imagination through them as well.

Carol Ann Maidment

Carol Ann Maidment, 71, of Lawton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.

She was born September 16, 1954, in Dearborn, Michigan, the daughter of Robert Colasinski and Joanne (Green) Colasinski.

Carol’s faith was important to her throughout her life, and she maintained a special connection to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Paw Paw. She was a devoted mother who poured her heart into raising her children, always putting their needs before her own and showing them the true meaning of love, strength, and perseverance. She showed up for her kids in every way, supporting them wholeheartedly in whatever they were interested in, always their biggest fan and constant source of encouragement.

Carol loved going on adventures, whether exploring Michigan’s beautiful lakes and beach towns or traveling to visit her children, she never passed up an opportunity to see new things.

Carol always made sure she smelled the best and was very particular about her lotion and candle scents. She also loved going for walks with Lee, bird watching, and admiring flowers or the fall foliage. A favorite tradition of hers was attending the Tulip Festival each year.

Carol was loyal to her beloved State of Michigan. She cheered proudly for her home teams, especially the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, and Western Michigan Hockey, even making sure to write down the times of every game so she wouldn’t miss them. She truly enjoyed the beauty and scenery of Michigan and all that it had to offer!

Above all else, Carol loved and cherished her family. She always made time to hang out with them and never missed a family gathering with her siblings. She especially loved taking her two grandsons to the Zoo and Cedar Point!

Carl J. Harris

Carl J. Harris, Squirrel, has climbed his last tree. Carl passed away Sept. 27, 2025, at his home in Lawton, MI surrounded by family, including his sister, Margaret, from Texas. He was born at home Dec. 18, 1933, and since then he has made quite an impact in this little area of our world.

Carl was passionate about having fun and getting joy out of the life he was given. One of the ways he had fun was to be out in nature. He once said, “I hated having to put on shoes when I started school”; he was used to the dirt under his feet. Carl often chose nature over school. His biggest joy was his family, our family gatherings, surprising people, and, of course, being the center of attention.

The Squirrel often recalled fond memories of his childhood in “the sticks” of the Lawrence/Paw Paw area. One such memory is when he and his buddy, Jerry Mead, got totally covered in mud, laughed at each other then jumped in the river. Another fond memory Carl shared was about his turtle hunting, which landed his picture in the paper holding his catch. His family and friends often heard about his mom’s homemade bread and other goodies that she made. The Squirrel is well known for his storytelling.

Carl had been drafted into the Army in 1955 for a two-year tour of duty. He served at several forts, one being Forts Sill, Oklahoma. He ended up in Alaska not far from the arctic circle. Because of his experience there, he grew to love Alaska and returned when he could.

On May 21st, 1961, Carl married Barbara; they shared 62 years together. It was thought that he pursued her first, but it was her who went after him. Barbara stole his treats at work and ran off with the work rag he had in his pocket. One of their personal joys was going out in that nature he loved so much and picking flowers to display at home.

Carl was a mini entrepreneur. He had worked for businesses like Paw Paw Plating and Welch’s but always found ways to make money through making a public network and using his imagination. When he was a child, he sold worms. Later in life, he baked, made jewelry, sold stuff he had collected, had his own trash route, and eventually got into what he was most known for, tree work. Many people were amazed at his unique tree removal skills. He served people in this way from the early 1970’s up until he was in his late 80’s. Carl loved providing for his family in his own unique way.

He is survived by his sister, Margaret Hendricks, his stepdaughter, Laura (Kendall) Whiting, daughters; Karen (Jim) Vettese, Theresa (Jeff) Skapnit, and Julie (Bill) Pierce. He was a proud grandpa of eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one step great, great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, their infant son, Michael, his parents, Phil and Helen (Shaw) Harris, and his sister Gertrude Terry.

Memorial service will be held at the Paw Paw Seventh Day Adventist Church with visitation at 10:30 and the service at 11:30 on Oct. 26th, 2025; 60409 M-40. A luncheon in the fellowship hall of the church will follow.
