David Lloyd Richardson

David Lloyd Richardson passed away peacefully, with family at his side, in the comfort of his home on May 4, 2026.

Born at home in Paw Paw, Michigan on July 3, 1931, to Lloyd and Mary (Fenton) Richardson, Dave grew up in Paw Paw, graduated from Paw Paw High School, and after serving his country in the Korean War and attending college, returned home to dedicate his life to family and his beloved community.

During Dave’s service in the Navy, from 1951 to 1955, he was stationed on the USS Destroyer McKean DDR 784. He achieved the rank of Machinist Mate First Class, and was awarded Korea, China and National Defense Service medals.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Dave attended Michigan State University, but after two years, he prioritized family and community by returning home to help his father with his family business. When Lloyd retired, Dave took over the highly successful business they had built together painting, wallpapering, and refinishing floors. Like his dad, Dave joined the Paw Paw Masons.

One of Dave’s greatest passions was serving as volunteer firefighter for Paw Paw. Dave met the love of his life, Bonnie Essig, on a blind date. They celebrated their marriage in 1964 at Trinity Lutheran Church by riding through Paw Paw on a fire truck afterwards. A new family tradition was born.

Dave served as volunteer firefighter in Paw Paw since 1960 — over 60 years. Not only was he Fire Chief during the 100th anniversary of the Paw Paw Volunteer Fire Department in 1968, but Dave was also there to celebrate the department’s 150th anniversary. Dave’s legacy continues through his two sons Kirk and Steve, and two of his grandsons, Kyle and Tyler, all who continue to serve in the Paw Paw Volunteer Fire Department.

Trinity Lutheran continued to be a major part of their lives, as Dave and Bonnie volunteered in many ways, including youth group leadership. Dave served as an Usher and an Elder. Raising their children in their faith was very important to Dave and Bonnie. They also enjoyed being involved with their children’s interests, such as the 4-H Club.

As an involved citizen of his beloved hometown, Dave was active in community government as well, serving either on the Paw Paw Village Council as Trustee or Village President for nearly 20 years, and Paw Paw Township Supervisor for 16 years. In 2015, Dave was inducted into the Paw Paw High School Hall of Fame.

Dave often expressed how proud he was of his three children and his five grandchildren — of the careers they chose, their aspirations, and their dedication to family.

Surviving Dave is his daughter, Christine Richardson; sons, Kirk (Tami) Richardson and Steve (Stephanie) Richardson; grandchildren, Kyle, Tyler, Spencer, Stuart, and Samantha. Also surviving are Dave’s brothers-in-law, Ronnie Essig (Bonnie’s twin) and Clifford (Angela) Essig.

Dave is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Bonnie (Essig) Richardson; parents Lloyd and Mary Richardson; his sister Dorothy (Arthur) Thurbur; his brother-in-law Douglas Essig, Jr., and Bonnie’s parents, Douglas and Sarah Essig.

The family would like to thank Centrica Care Hospice for the wonderful care and love given to both Bonnie and Dave.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Adams Funeral Home, 502 West Michigan, Paw Paw, Michigan.

Dave’s funeral will be 12:00 Noon on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 721 Pine Street, Paw Paw, Michigan, with Pastor Ron Moritz officiating.

Following the funeral, a graveside service will be held at Cuddeback Cemetery in Paw Paw.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the American Legion Post #68, 115 N. Niles Street, Paw Paw, MI 49079, to help obtain a Navy Memorial Statue for the Paw Paw Veteran's Park or the Paw Paw Firefighter's Association, 832 S. Gremps Street, Paw Paw, MI 49079, to be used for the Paw Paw Honor Guard.

Melanie Anne Timkovich

Melanie Anne Timkovich, born August 4, 1960, to Noreen Norton, was the eldest of two daughters, a role she carried with both strength and quiet grace throughout her life. She grew up alongside her younger sister, Jennifer, forming a bond that would remain constant through the years.

Melanie passed away on April 28, 2026, with her devoted husband, Tim, by her side. In her final days, she was surrounded by the people who loved her most, held close in the same warmth she so freely gave to others.

She will be remembered for her deep compassion, sharp intelligence, and a dry sense of humor that revealed itself in the most perfectly timed moments. Melanie had a remarkable ability to understand people, meeting them with empathy and sincerity that left a lasting impression. She held a special love for Lake Superior and treasured the time she spent with her sister Jennifer, her nephew Frank, and her niece Rose—time that was just as deeply cherished in return.

Her love for animals was woven into the fabric of her life, especially her horses and Australian Shepherds, and most especially her beloved dogs, Paisley and Brody. She found peace and joy in nature—camping, horseback riding, gardening, reading, and traveling throughout Michigan’s Upper Peninsula with Tim. Together, they explored waterfalls, visited Pictured Rocks, wandered Sleeping Bear Dunes, and returned time and again to the quiet beauty of Lake Superior.

Holidays were a cherished tradition, most often spent at her sister Jennifer’s home, surrounded by family. She held a special place in her heart for her niece and nephew, Rose and Frank, whom she loved dearly.

Melanie expressed herself through art in many forms, including her collection of tattoos—each one as unique and meaningful as the life she lived, worn with pride and quiet confidence.

In her younger years, Melanie grew up on a farm in Paw Paw, Michigan, alongside her mother, sister, grandfather Frank, and cousins Debbie and Denise. She was often described as the “manager” of the farm girls—naturally taking the lead with a sense of responsibility and a hint of playful authority. With her beloved Border Collie, Lady, by her side, she would harness her favorite pony, Polly to a sleigh handcrafted by her uncle Eugene, and take the other girls on rides—Melanie at the reins, guiding them forward with confidence and joy.

From an early age, Melanie’s intelligence was unmistakable. She was a 4.0 student and a proud member of the National Honor Society, a reflection of the focus and thoughtfulness that would define her life.

She was united in marriage to Timothy Timkovich on September 28, 1996, in a small, quaint country church—Townline Methodist Church in Bloomingdale, Michigan. The two met in the fall of 1994 while cutting wood at her sister Jennifer’s home. Timothy proposed on April 25, 1995, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love, simplicity, and shared adventure.

They spent their honeymoon traveling throughout Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, camping across the region—setting up at one site, then exploring a new waterfall or destination each day. That spirit of adventure never left them. Over nearly 30 years together, they built a life on their farm, spending time with their dogs and returning often to the places they loved most.

Melanie devoted her professional life to a career as a psychiatric registered nurse, where she excelled in compassionate patient care. She brought both intelligence and deep empathy to her work, creating meaningful connections with those she cared for. It was evident to anyone who spoke with her, even briefly, that she truly loved what she did.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Noreen Terrell Norton; her uncle, Eugene Terrell; her grandfather, Frank; and her grandmother, Esther.

Melanie is survived by her devoted husband, Timothy Timkovich; her sister, Jennifer Owsiany; her beloved great-nephew, Henry, son of her niece Rose; and her niece and nephew, Rose and Frank, all of whom she loved deeply. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Scott Timkovich, Rick Timkovich, and Fred Timkovich (married to Patty); her sister-in-law, Roxann Ballard (married to Doug); and her nieces and nephews, Alyssa Monroe (married to Brandon), Dylan Ballard (married to Courtney), and Derek Ballard (married to Leandra).

Visitation will be held Monday, May 4, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a service to follow at 7:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home, 502 W. Michigan Avenue, Paw Paw, Michigan 49079.

She will be laid to rest at 2:00 p.m. on May 9, 2026, at Wildey Cemetery in Paw Paw, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Melanie’s name to the SPCA, 6955 W. KL Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, honoring her lifelong love and compassion for animals or ISK Integrated Services of Kalamazoo, 610 S. Burdick Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49007.

In every quiet trail, in the sound of wind through the trees, and in fields of wildflowers lit by the sun, her presence will be felt—steady, beautiful, and enduring.

William "Bill" Gene Sousley

William (Bill) Sousley passed peacefully at his home in Lawrence, MI on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 surrounded by his family. Bill was born September 27, 1932 to Chester Eugene and Mable Sousley. He was the eldest of 7 siblings. He is survived by his children, Kim Thompson and Kelly (Carrie) Sousley, grandchildren Amanda (Dave) Thomas, Amy (Michael) Ohlert, Matthew Thompson and Audrey Gross, and great grandchildren Korben, Jade, Evie, Tamarra and Delaney. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Georgia, Gladys and Gari and brother Chris. His sisters Gertrude and Gayle also survive to tell the stories of growing up.

Bill served his country proudly in the Korean War and was recently awarded a 50 year commemoration with the American Legion Post 174. He took pride that a Sousley was one of the Iwo Jima flag raisers. He was proud to have been an Honor Flight recipient and cherished his time in Washington DC with his comrades Dick Kroeg and Chuck Moden.

An avid sports enthusiast and hunter provided him with many years of enjoyment and stories too numerous to tell. He was a devoted supporter of boys and girls youth sports and taking care of the ball fields. He was a Little League umpire, a softball coach, a Boy Scout commissioner, a runner and hiker. He shared a hunting cabin ‘up north’ with his dear friends, Charlie Brown, Dick Kroeg and frequent hunting buddies. The tales Camp Bologna could tell!

He was a hard man for a father but mellowed to become a loving and patient grandpa…the title he enjoyed the most. He loved his family fiercely and did not suffer fools lightly. You knew what he thought of you. He loved to tease and loved it more when it was dished back…preferably with a sassy attitude.

In his later years, he shared many of them with his dear companion, Reva Carrington, prior to her passing. The last 5 years were devoted to his lion-hearted tiny dog, Peaches. A dog he swore was smarter than most people!

Family and friends will gather to share the memories of Bill on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the Lawrence United Methodist Church, 122 S. Exchange Street, Lawrence. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A memorial service will take place at 12:00 p.m. followed by a military honors funeral at the Veteran’s Hill Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the American Legion Post 174.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the American Legion Post 174 will be welcomed.

LeRoy "Lee" Clare Bailey

Leroy (Lee) Clare Bailey passed away at home on April 16th, 2026, after a brutal seven-month fight against cancer and the side effects of its treatments.

Lee was born in Allegan, Michigan on June 22nd, 1947, to Clare and Josephine (Cizczion) Bailey. He graduated from Allegan High School and was a gifted athlete. He loved playing football, camping, and hanging out with his buddies in the Allegan Forest, and shooting baskets with his Uncle Chick.

He volunteered for the U.S. Army and was proud to serve his country as a radio operator in Vietnam. Upon his return from overseas, he married Bonnie Coleman and became the proud father of daughters Melanie (Brian) Greer and Jessica (Matt) Ring, who meant the world to him.

He loved sports and was an avid U of M football and die-hard Detroit Lions fan. He enjoyed running and biking and participated in multiple triathlons. He was always in the stands cheering when his daughters played softball and volleyball.

Lee became a certified Master Electrician and worked for nearly 35 years in primarily industrial environments. After his retirement in 2005, he spent another 20 years as an electrical inspector, serving up to seven townships at one time. He was an extremely hard worker and never gave up on anything.

In 1993, he met the woman who would become his best friend, Melissa (Bell), and in 1996 they purchased a home on the Paw Paw River, so their Golden Retriever could swim any time he wanted. Over the following years, Lee lovingly remodeled each room of the house, where he and Melissa created a warm and comfortable home they cherished. They married in Las Vegas on March 15, 1997.

Lee and Melissa traveled to the Caribbean and Florida many times, and for several years kept a small boat in South Haven for the summer, but they both preferred a quiet life at home with each other, surrounded by nature and their dogs. Lee loved being outdoors regardless of the weather and enjoyed tinkering in his pole barn and tending their property, always with rock music or the television playing in the background. He played an awesome air guitar with whatever lawn tool was handy.

Lee’s heart was huge and generous. He was the guy who would stop and help you when your car broke down on the side of the road, stand up for a woman being harassed in a gas station, gift a neighbor with a generator so if their power went out, their new baby would be safe and warm, or fix the wiring in the kitchen of a single mom, refusing payment for even the necessary parts. (All true stories.)

Lee had a passion for military history and knew everything about the Civil War. He got a big kick out of how much he looked like Ulysses S. Grant. In his younger years he participated in Civil War reenactments, and in 2023, he and “BFF” Dallas Hankinson took a driving tour of the various battle sites near the east coast, before heading to Florida to surprise Lee’s Uncle Jim Bailey, who was the positive guiding influence his entire life, and whom he loved like a father. He also got to spend some time with his cousin/brother-from-a-different-mother, Gary Letourneau.

Lee’s love for animals was special. He enjoyed taking his Goldens for daily car rides, and several of them “worked” as “electrical inspector dogs,” traveling with him to the various sites he inspected. He remembered every dog and cat he had throughout his life and would always tear up when talking about those that had passed. He would rescue any injured animal he found, nursing it back to health, including a wolf dog who ended up joining our family. He also fed the neighborhood’s feral cats through a pet door he cut into the back of his pole barn.

Lee was kind and funny, making friends wherever he went, even making light of his condition with the nurses, who didn’t see him at his best during his illness. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten because he made this world a better place, just by being himself.

There will be no service, but a visitation will be held on Friday, May 8th from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Adams Funeral Home, 502 W Michigan Ave, Paw Paw. Donations can be made in Lee’s name to your choice of a no-kill animal rescue or shelter.
