June is National Men's Health Awareness Month. The purpose is simple: to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among both men and boys. This month is about encouraging men to focus on their health by eating right, exercising, and preventing disease.
Although men face certain health problems specific to their bodies (prostate cancer, for example), most health issues men and women face (heart disease, diabetes, etc.) are the same. Yet men are more reluctant to go to the doctor (studies show women go to the doctor twice as much as men).
We want to heighten men’s awareness of preventable health problems while increasing and prolonging their quality of life. We encourage men and boys to establish partnerships with trusted medical professionals, avoid unsafe/risky behaviors, care for their mental and physical health, and participate in regular/recommended health screenings. Schedule an appointment today with our Rural Health clinic.

Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month is observed in June as an opportunity to spread the word about and discuss Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Throughout the month, the Alzheimer’s Association encourages people around the globe to support the movement by wearing purple and training their brains to fight the disease.

A Stroke happens when blood flow to an area of the brain is blocked or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts. A stroke occurs in America every 40 seconds, and someone dies of it every four minutes.
There are two main types of stroke — ischemic stroke, which occurs due to lack of blood flow, and hemorrhagic stroke, which occurs due to bleeding. Both conditions cause parts of the brain to stop functioning properly.
Some treatments for stroke work only if given within the first 3 hours after symptoms start. A delay in treatment increases the risk of permanent brain damage or death. You can reduce your risk for stroke, and our rural Clinic providers can help you. So make an appointment today.
