Many of you already know this, but for those who don't and for those who would like to show our massage therapist, Sara, some support, here is a little update on her situation.
Sara is a certified massage therapist and is attending NWHSU for her Master's of Acupuncture degree to build on her career. She has been driving an hour and a half every day to attend class while raising a family of five kids with her husband, Josh. In August, she was diagnosed with a golf ball-sized cyst under her brain that was pushing against her optic nerve and pituitary gland. It was luckily benign, but would cause a lot of trouble if not taken out. She underwent brain surgery on September 24th at the Mayo in Rochester. They couldn't remove the cyst because it was so large, and they didn't want to risk harming the pituitary gland, so they drained and removed as much as they could. Due to this type of treatment, it could grow back, and she may have additional surgery in the future. She will be out of classes and work for an extended period of time during her recovery, with additional time off in the future if it happens to grow back.
Sara's family is holding an event to accept donations in various ways to help alleviate some of the stress that Sara and Josh will endure to pay the bills without Sara's income. If you'd like to attend, the event will be this upcoming Saturday, November 15th, at the Paynesville Legion. If you are unable to attend or would like to support Sara in your own way, she also has a GoFundMe page that one of her acupuncture colleagues has set up for her.
Benefit: November 15th from 11-4pm at the Paynesville Legion
