I’m on the hunt for 3 individuals that might have thought of doing massage therapy before.

The cool thing about doing an apprenticeship versus traditional massage schooling is you can earn money giving massages before being licensed, tuition is significantly cheaper and you have 1-1 instruction from your teacher.

I currently have a place on Payson Main Street that I do yummy luxury treatments out of.

I am very detailed in my massage and offer only 90 minute or 2 hour options. I have found that the majority of clients are just starting to get relaxed around that hour mark.

📍 Location: Payson, Utah

Along side Katie Bell, I am thrilled to officially announce I am teaching, mentoring and over-seeing a beautiful spa in Payson.

Katie and I both together have 4 amazingly talented apprentices we are overseeing and teaching a new generation of body work too! ❤️

This year marks 15 years that I stepped into massage therapy school. I am thrilled to share my passion, knowledge and 5-star experience with these four girls.

What does this mean for my former and current clients?

I will be spending most of my time overseeing clients in Payson overseeing the students during their clinic hours. I need to be in the building when any of the students have a massage. Because of this, I will be taking most clients in Payson.

I am still a single mama. My number one priority will always be my son. So when I am not in Payson, I will be on mom-duty. 👦🏼💙

I will have limited out-call time slots available and they go quickly. So, if you are interested in them please schedule with me ASAP.

If you have a gift certificate that hasn’t been used please message me so we can work out using those for you! They are still good! ❤️

Thank you clients and more importantly…. FRIENDS for your continued support through-out this 15 years in body work!

I’m Candace Camille Anderson LMT and certified doula in training.

I have a weird hobby of taking what I love to do (massage therapy) and taking it all over Utah to be photographed.

I have amazing friends that step in as models last second and sometimes I even have real models. As well as extremely talented photographers.

But I’m just me! Mother of a beautiful boy trying to take on this world one challenge at a time.

Enjoy!

🔈 WHY ARE THE PSOAS MUSCLES CONSTANTLY CONTRACTED DURING PROLONGED PERIODS OF STRESS?

Whether you run, bike, dance, practice yoga, or just hang out on your couch, your psoas muscles are involved. That’s because your psoas muscles are the primary connectors between your torso and your legs. They affect your posture and help to stabilise your spine.

The psoas muscles are made of both slow and fast twitching muscles. Because they are major flexors, weak psoas muscles can cause many of the surrounding muscles to compensate and become overused. That is why a tight or overstretched psoas muscle could be the cause of many or your aches and pains, including low back and pelvic pain.

👩‍🔬 ANATOMY

Structurally, your psoas muscles are the deepest muscles in your core. They attach from your 12th thoracic vertebrae to your 5 lumbar vertebrae, through your pelvis and then finally attach to your femurs. In fact, they are the only muscles that connect your spine to your legs.

Your psoas muscles allow you to bend your hips and legs towards your chest, for example when you are going up stairs. They also help to move your leg forward when you walk or run.

Your psoas muscles are the muscles that flex your trunk forward when bend over to pick up something from the floor. They also stabilize your trunk and spine during movement and sitting.

👩‍🔬 THE PSOAS AND FIGHT OR FLIGHT RESPONSE

The psoas muscles support your internal organs and work like hydraulic pumps allowing blood and lymph to be pushed in and out of your cells.

Your psoas muscles are vital not only to your structural well-being, but also to your psychological well-being because of their connection to your breath.

Here’s why: there are two tendons for the diaphragm (called the crura) that extend down and connect to the spine alongside where the psoas muscles attach. One of the ligaments (the medial arcuate) wraps around the top of each psoas. Also, the diaphragm and the psoas muscles are connected through fascia that also connects the other hip muscles.

These connections between the psoas muscle and the diaphragm literally connect your ability to walk and breathe, and also how you respond to fear and excitement. That’s because, when you are startled or under stress, your psoas contracts.

In other words, your psoas has a direct influence on your fight or flight response!

During prolonged periods of stress, your psoas is constantly contracted. The same contraction occurs when you:

➡️ sit for long periods of time
➡️ engage in excessive running or walking
➡️ sleep in the fetal position
➡️ do a lot of sit-ups

💡 Here are some tips for getting your psoas back in balance:

✔️ Avoid sitting for extended periods
✔️ Add support to your car seat
✔️ Try Resistance Flexibility exercises
✔️ Get a professional massage
✔️ Release stress and past traumas
✔️ Stretch

💡 HOW TO STRETCH

Roller Psoas Stretch
Use a foam roller for this passive, relaxing stretch that lengthens your psoas, one of your deep hip flexors.

1. Place the roller perpendicular to your spine and lie with your sacrum (the back of your pelvis) — not your spine — on the roller.
2. Pull your left knee toward your chest, keeping your right heel on the ground. You should feel a stretch on the front of your right hip.
3. To increase the stretch, reach your right arm over your head and open your left knee slightly out to the left.
Hold for 30 seconds, then switch legs. Repeat as needed.

— Sub-occipital Base Release —

The sub-occipital muscles are muscles that attach into the base of our skull at a bone called the occiput. There are four paired muscles in all, and when they need release, they often feel like taught bands at the base of the skull. When tight, these muscles can cause headaches often in the base of the skull and into the head including behind the eyes, neck pain, shoulder/upper trap pain, congested sinuses, vision issues, and more. These muscles are also highly interconnected with our stress response. Whenever we experience stress, our suboccipital muscles tighten down. Notice when you are under stress how "scrunched" your upper neck is.

The first thing I do is to release the suboccipital muscles with my fingertips by practically balancing the base of the skull into my fingertips. This is often tender or even painful to the patient but also feels very good and relieving (if you're a patient, you know what I am saying!). This immediately helps to relax the muscles and take the body out of the sympathetic nervous system stress response. Also, many patients report their sinuses draining immediately, while we are holding the points. There are so many other benefits as well.

Near the center of the suboccipital muscles, there are two points known as the Stillpoint. With a prolonged holding and gentle rocking of these points, we achieve an even further relaxation that is often described as an absolute MELTING of the entire body. These are powerful points. With treatment, the nervous system goes into a temporary suspension. Cerebrospinal fluid flow is increased, and tension is released within the connective tissue of the brain itself. This may be why patients truly love this technique.

Welcome to my field of dreams!

I don’t normally give massages in the mountains or in a field. However, I love Utah and the beauty of it! 😍

I am fascinated with taking massage pictures in this beautiful land!

I love this picture because yes, it’s funny! I’m giving directions to my client on what to do when I step away and to disrobe to her level of comfort.

Usually this is behind a door for your privacy!

What do you think…. How much would you pay her hour to get a massage here or in the mountains? Or do you prefer behind doors for privacy?
