“I don’t want the child to look me in the eye because she knows I will say “good eye contact” or because she will get a treat. I want her to look at me in the eyes because I’m funny, because she’s comforted by me, because she wants to interact with me, because it feels good inside. The bottom line: Looking at me in the eyes makes her feel connected to me. We want that to be the motivation for the interaction.” 💙🧩
